[Cantaloupe kid cosplay] Blue Archive Duo Convention Photos: Uniform Sortie in an Industrial Warehouse

The first edit of our convention photos from the Qingdao JST Anime Convention is finally ready! This set features the Cantaloupe kid cosplay duo from Blue Archive. We picked a spacious industrial warehouse venue, where the high ceilings and grid-arranged overhead lights added a cool, gritty texture to these inherently cute characters. Standing in the open aisle with cool-toned overhead light falling across us created a fascinating visual contrast against our aqua-green hair and dark blue uniforms, which was exactly the stylistic direction we wanted to explore.

Regarding costume details, the dark blue uniforms featured bright blue stitching along the lapels, cuffs, and placket to stay true to the character design. The double-breasted golden buttons and small chest badges focused visual attention cleanly on the front, looking very sharp. The caps were worn slightly tilted down, paired with white gloves, giving the overall styling a high level of completeness. The semi-kneeling posture in front revealed the details of the pleated miniskirt and white tights for this Stockings cosplay, while the pointed elf ears and long pale green twin-tails served as the true soul of this styling, giving the 2D stills a lively dynamism unique to Anime-style photography.

In terms of posing choreography, we chose a front-and-back staggered positioning. The partner in the back executed a crisp salute with one arm extended outward, while I knelt in the front—one pointing forward, the other extending naturally—which is a duo composition we had practiced thoroughly during pose prep. This staggered positioning really tested our synergy: we had to ensure natural interaction in our gazes and postures while aligning with the photographer's angle to create a comfortable, dynamic diagonal composition without stiffness.

In reality, the shooting environment was quite challenging. The convention was packed with crowds, and we searched for a long time across this massive venue before finding a relatively empty area. Because the background was so expansive, subjects can easily look tiny, so the photographer opted to shoot up close, utilizing a telephoto lens to compress the background and turning the dense row of overhead industrial lights into a natural extension, creating an immersive sense of perspective with pleasing bokeh.

As I mentioned in my original post, the rest will be retouched gradually. Due to the multiple ambient light sources on site, floor reflections and direct overhead lights made skin tones and background colors slightly chaotic, so this first batch only underwent basic exposure adjustments and color unification. Moving forward, I plan to slightly deepen the grey-blue tones of the background in post-processing and brighten the green hair of the foreground subjects, achieving a better harmony between the cool industrial tone and the characters' vibrant charm to give the final images a more cinematic quality.

Beyond individual preparation, duo cosplay relies heavily on mutual coordination and accommodation; huge thanks to my partner for completing this shoot with me! Between every set of poses, we reviewed the camera screen to check details—whether the cap brim was crooked or facial expressions slipped. It was through this repeated trial and error that we selected these satisfying snapshots. As a frequent convention photographer and cosplayer, the charm of convention photos lies precisely in capturing authentic, unscripted vitality—no artificial drama needed, just seizing that genuine interactive moment.
