This time, I'm bringing Eleg cosplay from Goddess of Victory: Nikke. To recreate this cyberpunk-style mechanical girl look for this Game character, plenty of effort was put into costumes and props during early preparations. Eleg's costume design is highly recognizable: a cropped white jacket paired with a black tube top, while yellow arm sleeves and a red ribbon at the neckline form an intense color contrast. The yellow waist pouch and striped belt add to the overall techwear vibe, and black gloves and thigh rings are indispensable subtle details. The wig was trimmed into fluffy layers, and the yellow antenna device atop the head was doubly secured with hairspray and bobby pins to ensure it wouldn't wobble during shooting.
The biggest challenge lay in that massive orange cylindrical mechanical prop. To give it an authentic metallic sheen and sense of weight in the frame, the topcoat and shading were adjusted repeatedly during painting. On the shoot day, holding it in hand was truly heavy; to ensure natural poses, my core remained engaged the entire time, leaving my arms aching during breaks. For makeup, facial contour shading was emphasized to complement the rugged mechanical aesthetic, keeping the base makeup with a matte finish as much as possible.
This shoot utilized single-sided High-contrast lighting against a pure black backdrop, aimed at making the subject pop from the dark background while using shadows to accentuate the lines of the abdomen, shoulders, and neck. The low-angle camera position was deliberately chosen to heighten the frame's sense of oppression and the character's imposing aura. Because the jacket features a cropped waist design, sidelight easily caused uneven light spots across the abdomen; to find the perfect lighting position, the photographer and I repeatedly adjusted shooting angles and center of gravity on set.
Eleg's character inherently carries a calm, confident, and slightly badass aura, so in my movements, I tried to lean slightly forward, keeping my arms relaxed yet imbued with a touch of power. Holding that giant mechanical prop and attempting to make it look effortless actually consumed a lot of stamina. Due to the prop obstructing the view, posing required constantly finding gaps where the lens could capture me while balancing body extension and showcasing clean lines.
From makeup trials and prop crafting to the final photos, every single step aimed to make the character more multi-dimensional. The lighting effects this time met all expectations; the high contrast not only made the outfit's colors stand out, but also added depth and dimensionality to the subject. Hardcore mechanical elements collided wonderfully with the character's natural softness. The shoot went smoothly, yielding plenty of valuable experience regarding mechanical props and lighting setups.
