The weather these past couple of days has been scorching hot; shooting under the blazing sun was truly a test of physical endurance, but since we were aiming for that Refreshing summer vibe, this weather actually suited the theme perfectly. The Touhou Project Cirno cosplay photos I'm sharing today went smoothly from pre-production concept to final delivery. The shooting location was a wooden gazebo surrounded by lush greenery—the warm tones of the timber created a wonderful contrast against the cool blue outfit, with an open, spacious field of view.
For hair and makeup styling, I selected a vibrant sky-blue wig paired with a summery straw hat. The dress features the classic blue-and-white palette, adorned with multi-tiered lace and ruffles. The blue wings on my back were semi-translucent, catching a radiant sheen under the sunlight. Considering the heat, breathable chiffon fabric was chosen for the dress wherever possible. For props, I prepared a long-handled insect-catching net; holding it instantly established the character's mischievous, playful 2D personality. The red-and-white socks paired with red platform shoes really popped in the frame—to prevent the composition from feeling muted, I deliberately picked these red shoes to boost visual brightness and contrast.
The biggest hurdle during the shoot was lighting inside the gazebo: overhead shading created a strong lighting ratio, so we used reflectors to bounce fill light onto my face. Even though it was sweltering, I had to project a breezy, relaxed ease true to the character's cheeky yet innocent demeanor. The costume details were exquisite—especially the neckline bow and cuff accents, which offered great texture on camera. Resting between takes while sweating felt completely worthwhile because the lush green background photographed so well.
We tried several poses: holding the straw hat while gazing at the sky, clutching the bug net, or reaching one hand forward, all keeping a natural flow. My favorite shot is the first one—the upward head tilt flatters my jawline, while the extended leg showcases the tiered layers of the skirt hem. After finishing this shoot, even the irritation from the oppressive heat seemed to melt away. After all, the character's core element is ice; gazing at the pure blue tones makes mind and body feel delightfully cooled. Overall, this was a fantastic summer creative adventure, and I hope everyone enjoys this cool, refreshing photo set!
