For this shoot of NARAKA: BLADEPOINT's Yin Ziping in her "Jade Marrow Ice Heart" outfit, a lot of thought went into everything from the costume to the makeup and styling.
The costume itself is an improved Chinese-style dress with a white base and black borders. The standing collar and black bow look very neat, while the lace ruffles on the cuffs and skirt hem add a soft touch, accompanied by silver-white floral embroidery. Because the costume design features many hollowed-out and sheer parts, to make my movements more natural and relaxed during the shoot, I wore seamless inner wear in advance. This avoided the awkwardness of wardrobe malfunctions when posing and allowed me to focus more on portraying the character's temperament.
For the wig, I chose light golden twin-tails, topped with black-and-white lace and bow hair accessories, accented with pearl chains, striving to restore the character's features. In terms of makeup, the base makeup was kept as clear and fair as possible, and the eye makeup wasn't too heavy, relying mainly on pink blush and reddish-toned contact lenses to enhance the complexion. The lip makeup chose a more natural reddish tone, creating an overall vibe that is both cool and gentle.
To match the tone of this outfit, the setting was chosen indoors with classical Chinese elements. The background featured a dark wooden hollow-carved screen, paired with blue-and-white porcelain vases and plain vases holding white plums next to it. The ground was covered with white fabric bearing ink-wash calligraphy, scattered with a few pages of paper, and complemented by hanging white gauze curtains, bringing the whole atmosphere to life.
The photographer Jeffrey佛瑞, who collaborated with me this time, is very professional and knows how to make the most of the on-site lighting. The soft light shining through the white gauze fell right on the subject, making the white clothes and stockings look full of texture. During the shoot, I tried different sitting postures: sitting on a high stool with legs crossed can lengthen the lines nicely, and paired with black high heels, it brings out a strong aura. Sitting on a wooden armchair with hands clasped in front or gently touching the cheek looks more dignified. The shot where I took off my shoes and stepped on the wooden floor wearing only white over-the-knee socks aimed for a more relaxed, homey state.
Because the skirt hem has an asymmetric design with cutouts on the sides, combined with white over-the-knee socks and garter loops, it was very easy to accidentally expose something when sitting down. Therefore, before taking every photo, I carefully checked the state of the costume to ensure the pictures were both aesthetic and safe. Throughout this process, I had to control not only the body angles but also my expression management, striving to match the calm and composed demeanor of a benevolent healer.
From the placement of props to the subtle adjustment of every gesture, and then to the conveyance of gaze, everything was aimed at making this set of photos more than just a costume display—it is a restoration of the character's atmosphere. The "Jade Marrow Ice Heart" styling achieves minimalism in color, with a large area of white forming a great visual contrast with the dark wood grain, and the final presented image also achieved the desired cleanliness and purity.
