This time, I attempted Shen Miao's panda-themed look from NARAKA: BLADEPOINT, with the overall design unfolding around black-and-white plush elements and a bamboo leaf vibe. The costume utilizes a large amount of asymmetrical ruffles and silk bows, paired with fluffy panda paw gloves and headwear, amplifying the character's playful feel into the actual shoot. For the location, a Chinese-style tearoom was specially chosen; the solid wood furniture and bamboo forest background perfectly match the Chinese style tone of the game. The light and shadow fall on the character through the window frames, giving the black-and-white colored costume more layering.
The biggest challenge in styling was balancing the cute vibe with a combat-ready texture. Therefore, instead of going completely down a soft and cute path, the character's sleekness was retained through black stockings and off-the-shoulder tailoring. In terms of props, real bamboo branches were prepared; the composition of biting a bamboo leaf was an improvisation, which fits the character setup unexpectedly well. Plush accessories tend to look washed out under strong light, so the white balance and contrast were adjusted in post-processing to keep the white parts translucent and ensure the black parts anchor the frame properly.
Actually, shooting this kind of animal ears and paws theme places high demands on expression control; it needs to express the character's agility without appearing forced. I experimented with gazes and hand gestures from different angles, and finally selected the ones with biting the bamboo leaf and waving the paws, which retain character recognition while incorporating a bit of my own interpretation. Overall, it was a very enjoyable creative process, and I hope to convey this sense of energy from Shen Miao.
