Preparing to shoot Iuno from Wuthering Waves took quite some time. What originally compelled me to bring her to life was her line: 'Acting on my own whims is probably part of my true nature.' That headstrong, unyielding, and slightly tsundere demeanor has always resonated with me in Anime cosplay, so in portraying her, I focused on amplifying these traits through expressions and body language.
Let's start with the wardrobe. The outfit features an abundance of gold armor pieces—from the high collar and diamond-checkered chest plate to the rigid arm guards, all crafted from hard materials. Wearing them was quite demanding, particularly the neck collar, which felt tight over long periods. However, the metallic sheen in front of the lens was truly breathtaking, especially under side-backlighting where the gold and white fabrics created vivid contrast. The black-and-white starry fabric on the bodice, combined with black strapping, delivered strong design depth; while the tailored silhouette was relatively forgiving, maintaining an upright posture with chest out and core engaged was non-negotiable to hold the garment's crisp shape.
The wig consists of vivid Blue hair twin tails fading into a soft cyan gradient at the tips, interwoven with tiny star-shaped sequins. During styling, I spent hours applying wax and setting spray to sculpt the bangs and sidelocks. To keep the twin tails voluminous without overwhelming the proportions of my head, I carefully calibrated their placement and braiding structure. Makeup-wise, matching the blue color theme, I wore bright blue contact lenses and designed the eye makeup to enlarge the eyes, applying dense lower lashes and dusting fine rhinestones and glitter beneath the lower eyelids. The base makeup pursued a porcelain, cool-toned finish with blush swept directly under the eyes for vitality, completed with a glossy lip lacquer to catch the studio lights with a dewy sheen.
The shoot took place in an indoor studio, where I utilized angled hard lighting to accentuate facial contours and the metallic texture of the armor. One notable challenge was the chunky golden arm guards: their width significantly restricted arm movement, and the wrong angle could easily make me look like an awkward mech warrior. To counter this, I choreographed delicate hand placements—such as gently touching my collar or crossing hands over my chest—infusing breath and organic nuance into the frame rather than posing like a static mannequin. The white gloves featuring a crescent moon emblem on the back also carried great texture, earning several close-up frames.
Throughout the entire shoot, I found Iuno's most magnetic quality to be her unwavering self-assurance. Without relying on complex backdrops, subtle eye micro-expressions and an aloof, guarded posture brought out her internal tension. Bringing a 2D character into three-dimensional reality through makeup, costume, and lighting is always an exhilarating journey, embodying why I cherish this Role-playing game hobby. I'm genuinely pleased with how these shots turned out, with both the wig's finish and the costume details meeting every expectation.
