This time I'm shooting Youhu from Wuthering Waves, perfectly matching that slightly provocative yet lively vibe of a "mesugaki" character. To recreate this character, a lot of effort went into the early costume production and wig styling. The blue-and-white color scheme of the outfit is very refreshing, and details like the purple ring ornament at the waist, cross straps, and patterns on the white overcoat required careful tailoring to stay true to the original design. The vest on the upper body has subtle traditional Chinese elements and breathable fabric, which, when paired with a black undershirt and half-finger gloves, provides great layering.
The wig is short silver-white hair, and to easily bring out Youhu's lively temperament, I specifically trimmed layers into the bangs and sideburns. The headpiece features round hair buns and golden decorative strips with characters on them; securing these accessories took quite some time to adjust the center of gravity so they wouldn't tilt during the shoot. This styling turned out way better in the real-scene studio than I had imagined.
For this shoot, we chose a new Chinese-style indoor studio set, using wooden arched display shelves and cascading purple wisteria flowers as the background, which harmonize beautifully with Youhu's predominantly blue-and-white palette. To emphasize the skin texture, a slight cool-toned adjustment was made to the color temperature of the lights, making the skin look translucent and fair, while giving the blue and white costume a lightweight visual effect. The makeup deliberately emphasized a reddish tint around the corners of the eyes, which, paired with blue colored contacts, made the gaze look even more playful and agile.
During the shoot, I tried different sitting postures, crossing my legs naturally or posing with hands on hips, focusing on utilizing the light to outline the contours and avoid any stiffness in movement. The shoes are black with a blue inner lining, corresponding to the outfit's color scheme, and the few shots taken without shoes better convey a relaxed, stay-at-home feel. This set of photos really tested on-site expression management, as it required maintaining a whimsical and mischievous expression while striking poses. Post-processing mostly focused on unifying the skin tone and enhancing ambient light, preserving natural skin textures and clothing creases without over-liquifying. As a work of cosplay photography, I did my best to achieve a high-fidelity anime recreation and capture that lively feeling I wanted.
