The first batch of photos for this Changli Anime cosplay photoshoot is finally sorted, and I'm sharing the results of part one with everyone. Since many friends have been asking about the details of the makeup, styling, and shooting, I'm taking this opportunity to share the prep work and on-site experience behind this shoot.
Let's talk about the recreation process for the costume and props first. This look features rich layering, with a classic color block of black, white, and red as the core. The white inner top's neckline features a unique cut and cutout design; the star-shaped metallic accessory on the chest pairs seamlessly with the overall tailoring, looking crisp and delicate. The outer black leather cropped jacket has red-orange contrasting piped edges, with orange-red cords tied at the shoulders and elbows, adding a subtle sporty touch. My favorite part is the black layered metallic choker, whose shape and texture perfectly match the character's cool and elegant demeanor. Accessories are also the finishing touches: I wore semi-sheer Cosplay black stockings with a white-star pattern on a black base, paired with detailed black strappy high-heeled leather shoes and a striking pair of bright orange long gloves. Below the neck is the wig, featuring a pink-and-white two-tone texture, topped with a black ribbon bow and exquisite golden hair ornaments, with customized symmetrical braided pigtails flowing down the sides.
The choice of location played a huge role in creating the atmosphere for this Garden cosplay photography. Photographer Longxiang set the location in a traditional Chinese garden. The scene featured an eye-catching vermilion pillar paired with gray-white stone railings and stone benches, backed by lush garden foliage and water. This classical and elegant setting created a strong visual contrast with the character's color scheme. The outdoor light was gentle on the day of the shoot, with overcast, diffused light and no harsh glare, which is ideal for an Anime cosplay photoshoot. The light falling on the costume and props highlighted the leather sheen of the jacket and the semi-sheer texture of the Cosplay black stockings without casting harsh shadows on the face.
During shooting, the red oiled-paper umbrella proved to be a very handy prop. When opened, the white canopy with red patterns echoed the red pillar; when closed and held in front or leaned against the side, it added vitality to the frame. I especially love the composition of the third full-body sitting photo: resting the umbrella to one side, sitting on the stone railing with legs angled slightly, fully displaying the upper body costume details, the pattern of the Cosplay black stockings, and the high heels. For expressions and demeanor, I aimed for a gentle yet detached feeling, using my gaze and posture to convey that calm, poised, yet proud aura.
Collaborating with photographer Longxiang went seamlessly. He excels at finding clean, solidly composed angles in relatively complex environments like gardens. In close-ups and medium shots, using foreground blur made the character stand out; in wide shots, he utilized architectural lines and light to naturally blend the dignity of traditional architecture into the character's expression.
As the quote goes, "Across ages in this mortal realm, finding an equal match across the board is truly a great fortune." Every outdoor shoot brings fresh feelings, and meeting great partners and working in harmony is truly delightful. Longxiang and I have already scheduled another shoot for Changli in a different style, and we're currently conceptualizing set designs and lighting setups. While this first part is out, the brainstorming and prep for part two are already underway, hoping to showcase a completely different side of the character.
Polishing the photography and styling indeed took a lot of thought. Putting together and releasing part one today, looking at these photos makes all the preparation feel worthwhile.
