For this Halloween, I specially prepared this Jet-Black Magician styling for Tamamo no Mae. Compared to the regular blue ascension form, this black dress carries an extra touch of mystery and maturity. In terms of makeup and styling, I deliberately deepened the contour of the eye makeup, pairing the pink twin-tails with headwear featuring small ears and a mini top hat, trying my best to restore that slightly mischievous trait of the character.
The shooting location was chosen in a retro European-style study; the dark wood bookshelves and walls filled with books are practically a custom-made background for this outfit. To match the environment, I used warm-toned lighting, aiming to create an atmosphere similar to a late-night study where a magician is browsing through ancient texts. In terms of props, a retro typewriter, an old-fashioned telephone, a teacup, and some small playing cards were prepared. The small book with a black cover held in hand perfectly echoes the Caster class setting.
There are actually many considerations regarding the clothing details. The highlights of this dress lie in the golden geometric metal pieces at the neckline and waist, as well as the exaggerated ruffled sleeve design. Set against the dark patterned fabric, these metallic textures and ruffles add visual layering. The black over-the-knee stockings and glossy high heels lengthen the overall lines. When shooting while sitting on that carved leather chair, to maintain an upright posture and smooth lines, you need to constantly tighten your core. Especially the action of crossing your legs is actually more strenuous than it looks, and you have to find the right support point to appear relaxed and elegant.
During the shooting process, I tried three different poses. The first photo mainly aims to showcase the sense of poise while sitting in the chair, utilizing books and a teacup as foreground props to give the frame more narrative depth. The one leaning on the desk has a slightly larger range of motion, with eyes staring straight into the lens to increase interactive feel. The angle lying on the desk is more for showcasing the full-body outfit details, especially the leg lines, and the card held in hand is also a small improvisational prop.
Mentioning the term Arts support, friends who play this game should be quite familiar with it. Although those strength and data memes from back then have become a thing of the past, this Halloween styling indeed carries the memories of many players. Putting on this outfit and striking a pose in front of the lens makes it feel as if I truly possess the confidence of planning strategies at a desk. Throughout the entire shoot, what I'm most satisfied with is the texture feedback of light and shadow on the black leather and black stockings. The contrast between highlights and shadows gives the frame more three-dimensional depth, and I hope this visual presentation carrying a Halloween atmosphere allows everyone to feel the charm of the character.
