The convention photos are finally here! Cosplaying Qingxiao was truly a unique and unforgettable experience. Wuthering Waves has always had exceptional costume design; Qingxiao's outfit merges traditional Chinese mandarin collar elements with anime-inspired airiness, and the physical costume came out packed with details. To achieve optimal results under the harsh overhead convention lights, we did extensive research on fabric choices. For the top, I chose satin with subtle jacquard patterns that cast a gentle, delicate luster under the lights. The metal buckles and tassel accessories at the chest were painstakingly attached by hand using hot glue and epoxy resin, ensuring they wouldn't easily come loose during dynamic poses.
The lower skirt tiers and sleeves utilized generous amounts of semi-sheer white and light-blue tulle. To achieve that ethereal, floating presence characteristic of xianxia cultivators, I deliberately selected the lightest-weight organza and chiffon. However, the common drawback of sheer fabrics is their susceptibility to static and snags—I had to carefully control my movements while posing, as the sleeve ribbons could easily tangle with the long train behind me in an instant. To anchor the multi-meter-long train, I added two concealed snap buttons at the waist, which, assisted by a small portable fan, created stunning kinetic dynamism in the frame.
As for the wig, Qingxiao's vibrant bright blue hair was quite tricky to style. Wearing the unstyled base directly would have looked overly bulky, so I extensively thinned out the fibers and added textured layers, using styling glue and hairspray to sculpt several perky ahoge tufts on the crown. The long side bangs were shaped with a flat iron into soft curls to naturally contour the face. To prevent wardrobe malfunctions, the delicate ribbon strands on the sides were secured to the inside of the wig with fine fishing line, maintaining that weightless, floating illusion no matter how much I walked around.
To harmonize with the blue hair, I wore high-luminance blue circle lenses. The eye makeup used a matching light blue as a wash across the lids, deepening the outer corners slightly to define the eye contours. Given the high ambient temperatures inside the convention hall, I opted for long-wear foundation paired with the baking powder technique; fortunately, my face held up beautifully throughout the shoot without melting.
Photo 1 was a truly magnificent candid capture: a gentle breeze picked up right as I raised my arms, billowing the sheer flowing sleeves and the expansive train behind me into the air. To ensure my leg lines looked sculpted and taut from a low upward angle, all those wall-sit practices paid off—bracing my legs straight and engaging my core produced a frame brimming with visual tension. Paired with white garter White stockings and platform heels, the overall silhouette was remarkably elongated.
In a crowded convention hall with chaotic backgrounds, hunting for ideal angles and waiting for the right light is critical. Industrial overhead fixtures easily cast heavy shadows on the face, so the photographer used a wide-aperture lens to work with ambient fill, melting the background booths and passersby into soft bokeh, directing the visual focus squarely onto the fabric textures and dynamic motion. Photo 2 tightens the framing to a medium shot, highlighting the fine gold and silver embroidery around the collar and the ombré blue chestplate. As long as movements remain fluid and expansive without overly stiff posed theatrics, natural grace captures the true essence of this character's spirit.
