This cosplay photo shoot was conceptualized around Sandrone from Genshin Impact, focusing on the themes of the Clockwork Princess and her puppet motifs. The outfit embraced a classic palette of wine red, white, black, and gold. The skirt incorporated generous pleated tiers and ruffled accents, elevated by intricate golden embroidery and crimson gem embellishments. The headpiece—a white lace-trimmed bonnet paired with flowing golden locks and vivid blue contact lenses—evoked an air of poised elegance tinged with cool detachment. To accentuate the mechanical nature of the doll, I wore white pantyhose and black high heels, intending to inject refined visual contrast into the vintage setting and add layered depth to the styling. For materials, the chest corset featured a subtly lustrous fabric supported by a rigid petticoat beneath, ensuring clean silhouettes whether seated or standing, which was essential for capturing that doll-like rigidity and stiff grace.
Designing the study backdrop required significant thought. The towering wooden bookshelves, vintage typewriter, globe, kerosene lamp, and hourglass arranged across the desk were all curated to deepen the storytelling. The miniature automaton prop was an especially charming touch; its outstretched mechanical hand delivering a letter framed an engaging interaction beside me, as if peering into the daily routine of a Clockwork Princess. The rich wood grain and carved edges of the desk lent heavy presence on camera, which, accompanied by scattered parchment and envelopes, forged an enigmatic study workspace. In the shots at the piano, I worked to make my postures feel both featherlight and accented with deliberate, mechanical pauses—as though internal gears were clicking into place.
Throughout shooting, I strove to channel the character's eerie, inhuman nuance. Whether sitting straight at the piano or leaning back on the carved sofa with legs crossed reading a book, I consciously held back my gaze and physical gestures, preventing excessive emotion from surfacing to sustain a calm, aloof, and distant aura. Warm golden ambient light bathed the wooden furnishings and metallic clothing accessories, creating striking contrast; the unedited raw images already radiated incredible depth. When taking close-ups, I subtly shifted my head angle, using shadows cast by the bonnet's brim and falling hair strands to frame the face, while keeping the white Stockings along my legs smooth and poised, finished with black heels to elongate the proportions.
Post-processing focused on fine-tuning shadow details to sharpen visual hierarchy. I deliberately preserved the warm amber glow without blowing out overall exposure, maintaining the rich, grounded ambiance of a vintage library. In color grading, the wine-red fabrics and gold trims were coaxed forward against the dim backdrop, while ensuring crisp contrast between the white Stockings and black heels so the subject remained immediately distinct amidst complex surroundings. Minor prop placement was also adjusted to give the composition ample breathing room without feeling cluttered.
Bringing this cosplay from concept to execution was a lengthy process—from garment tailoring and wig styling to set fabrication, every step aimed to honor that harmony of classical elegance and mechanical precision.
