[Sandrone Cosplay] A Harbinger's Afternoon Reading Time

Putting on this outfit and sitting in front of the red velvet curtain, the heavy dark red hardcover book in my hand actually has no weight, but holding it feels quite subtle. When preparing this Sandrone Cosplay costume, the biggest difficulty was actually the neck ornament, as well as the metal buckles and gemstone inlays around the waist. To recreate that precision mechanical feel and noble temperament, I spent a long time searching for materials, ultimately choosing black matte leather with a frosted texture paired with electroplated gold accessories. The black and gold color palette has a very high-end texture; if the tailoring is off, it can look cheap, so I revised the pattern three times before settling on the final version. Although the hair ornament looks like soft ruffled white cloth, to maintain its distinct semi-circular umbrella-like arc atop the head, I sewed shaping mesh and fine wire supports inside.

Building the set on the shooting day also took a lot of thought. The ornate gold carved mirror frame in the background and the black vintage clock were specifically hunted down from a prop warehouse to match the luxurious yet mechanical vibe this Fatui Harbinger projects. The combination of pearl string curtains and white pillar candles added a touch of vintage and mysterious beauty to the image. The red curtain was key to creating that theatrical drama, and the light angles and color temperatures were equally crucial. When the key light shone down at roughly a 45-degree angle from above, it formed beautiful specular highlights on the black clothing and gold trim, making facial features look three-dimensional.

Compared to direct full-body shots, I prefer expressing demeanor in half-body shots or close-ups. This character possesses a doll-like exquisite appearance, yet her eyes always carry a cold, almost ruthless scrutiny. To capture this feeling, the photographer guided me to adjust focal lengths and jawline angles, clicking the shutter the moment I looked up slowly from reading. We strived to recreate that "mastermind in control" detachment alongside her distinct touch of arrogance.

The costume's off-the-shoulder design demands high posture and upper-body muscle control; if shoulders hunch from tension, it loses composure and elegance. The black outer coat is very slimming, which, paired with the inner white chiffon skirt hem and high-waist tailoring, presents sleek lines while seated. The wide brownish-yellow ruffled frills at the cuffs were actually the heaviest part of the whole outfit; lacking internal support and relying purely on fabric layers, my wrists and arms grew quite sore during long shooting sessions. For the sake of visual quality, I had to keep shaking out my arms to relax during breaks.

For the wig, I used long straight silver-gray hair. To match the character's hair tone and style, I specially trimmed the bangs and side locks to create a light, airy feel, preventing the wig from looking stiff or helmet-like. Under direct lighting, the strands reflected a gentle silver-white luster. Since the clock prop on set had its hands fixed at a specific moment, it saved me the hassle of adjusting the time. The dark red hardcover book was an incredible interactive prop—it filled the gap in hand gestures while centering the visual balance of the composition.

For post-processing color grading, I insisted on avoiding excessive color shifts, mainly preserving the rich color of the red curtains while slightly lowering green saturation to keep skin tones looking fair and natural under this lighting. Overall, this shoot was a complete and fulfilling character recreation attempt. I thoroughly enjoyed refining the character's expressions within a dedicated set design—it felt far more immersive than a simple studio shoot against a white backdrop.
