Bringing Olivier to life at today's convention required immense effort from pattern-making to the final fitting. Crafting tangible fabric textures for the original black, white, and yellow tricolor design was quite a challenge. The bodice features white fabric spliced with a black faux-leather corset, trimmed all around with golden piping. To faithfully recreate the crimson heart-shaped gemstone brooch, I specifically sourced an acrylic material with an identical sheen, which caught the venue lights with stunning reflections. The multi-tiered yellow and white ruffles lining the underskirt billowed with rich dimensional volume during movement, preventing the silhouette from falling flat.
Selecting the wig took considerable time, ultimately settling on this light golden, long straight style. It reaches the waist, though the front sections were trimmed into face-framing layers. The orange-yellow bunny ear headpieces at the crown are the soul of the look, anchored with white bowknots and rubies; pinned securely onto my natural hair base, they held their position throughout the entire day without budging. On the makeup front, the focus centered on defining the red pupils, with the lower lids smudged with reddish eyeshadow and paired with elongated lashes to ensure the gaze aligned flawlessly with the character's demeanor.
The prop wand was custom-ordered, featuring a segmented shaft with a pink-to-red gradient capped by golden ornaments on both ends. It carried noticeable physical weight, so holding it one-handed while posing genuinely tested wrist stability. For footwear, I chose platform high-heeled sandals to coordinate with stockings (Stockings), with metallic straps coiling from the ankle all the way up the calf to visually elongate leg proportions. The trade-off, naturally, was keeping the instep tightly flexed during crouched poses.
The convention floor was a deep gray, so to avoid background distractions, the photographer opted for a low-angle upward perspective. Posing half-kneeling on one knee while extending the other leg forward elegantly displayed the outfit's complete tailoring while fully accentuating the stockings and strappy sandal details. Engaging the core was essential to avoid losing balance. In terms of lighting, we relied primarily on the hall's overhead spotlights; utilizing a wide aperture to blur the background allowed the subject to pop sharply.
As a cosplayer frequently attending outdoor shoots and conventions, I believe understanding a character's temperament and poise matters far more than just striking pretty poses. Olivier's confidence and commanding presence in this form needed to be articulated through eye contact and body language. Thus, I kept smiles to a minimum, maintaining a relatively composed, slightly detached expression. Navigating the hall and interacting all day in this costume was undeniably exhausting, but beholding the final cuts made every bit of effort worthwhile. Every cosplay is a personal dialogue with the character—scrutinizing every costume detail and polishing every physical nuance to manifest her signature moment in tangible reality.
