This Genshin Impact duo official photo set has finally been released to everyone. I cosplayed Damselette, and my partner cosplayed Puppet. To perfectly present the special temperaments of these two characters, we poured an immense amount of energy into costumes, makeup, and props. Damselette's attire looks flowing, but in reality, it features numerous layers; the translucent gauze of the skirt hem and the blue gradient part were prone to washing out under outdoor light, so the fabrics were chosen only after repeated comparisons. The wig was also specially treated with high-difficulty pink highlights; to maintain the natural curl of the hair strands, styling spray was used with restraint, aiming to present a nimble texture as much as possible. Puppet's costume possesses a heavier feel, with a dark main tone paired with complex metallic gold trims, layered skirt hems and sleevelets—just getting both of us fully dressed and organizing all accessories required a substantial amount of time.
The shooting location this time was chosen at an arcade-corridor courtyard with a strong classical atmosphere. The weather on that day was extremely clear, with distinct layers of clouds in the sky, which provided an exceptional natural light source for the shoot, though it also brought challenges. Because of the strong overhead light, we made fine adjustments to fill light on the characters' faces and shadow control, and everyone can see that the characters' facial contours are very clear in the photos, with natural shadow transitions. This photo set heavily utilized ultra-wide-angle and fisheye lenses, which was a very bold attempt. The edge stretching brought by the wide angle not only magnified the grandeur of the background architecture but also stretched the characters' body lines with extreme visual tension. Looking at the first and last photos, we deliberately had the photographer utilize the mottled pillars as a foreground frame; this compression and expansion of perspective relationships filled the frame with a cinematic feel.
Because of the characters' settings, the interaction between Damselette and Puppet couldn't be as soft and cute as everyday styles. In pose design, we pursued a dramatic feel that blended a bond with a certain cold detachment. Whether it was standing side-by-side under the corridor with that interlocking sense of leaning on each other, or sitting quietly together on the stone steps, utmost attention had to be paid to upright posture and micro-expression control. For that wide-angle close-up where both of us extended our hands toward the lens, because lens distortion heavily impacts face shape, to keep facial features undistorted at the stretched edges, we achieved the final effect through continuous minor adjustments of body angles and camera distances, coordinated with the photographer's candid snapshots.
To match Puppet's setting, my partner wore White stockings paired with specific styles of footwear. Under direct sunlight, the reflection and highlights of the white material were extremely difficult to handle, but the final photos successfully preserved the clothing's detail texture and leg lines. We repeatedly switched camera positions across grass and stone paths; because the black-haired girl's strappy sandals were unstable on gravel, every frozen movement required extremely high concentration to balance the body.
This Genshin Impact cosplay work is a concentrated presentation of our understanding of the characters. From costume textures to the language of light and shadow, every single detail attempts to construct their own story space.
