This photoshoot features a Cosplay photoshoot of Seira Orimoto from Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch. Back in March, I completed this mermaid-themed shoot together with our group members, and today I'm sharing the solo progress first.

During the trial makeup stage, to restore Seira's distinctive look, I chose a high-saturation long straight orange wig, trimming blunt bangs at the forehead with slightly longer side tendrils to flatter the face shape. The base makeup focused on a clear, dewy finish, while the eye makeup utilized an orange-brown palette as a base, with fine glitter highlighting the inner corners and aegyo sal, paired with brown cosmetic contacts to soften the gaze. Because of the mermaid concept, generous body highlighter was applied to simulate the glistening moistness of skin underwater.

Regarding the outfit, the orange seashell bandeau top and the glossy mermaid tail on the lower half were the core elements. The tail features a gradient orange-yellow tone studded with fine glitter particles, trimmed with red undulating wave textures along the fluke edges. For accessories, I coordinated an orange choker, a yellow conch pendant, arm straps, and a red beaded bracelet, which added immense completeness to the whole styling.

The set designers and photographer constructed a truly dreamy underwater ambiance, featuring a blue backdrop layered with semi-sheer chiffon drapes and numerous bubble props. To simulate underwater caustics, soft diffused lighting was combined with specialized ripple-effect gobo boards to craft glistening refractive patterns. The shooting process was far more taxing than anticipated; because the mermaid tail restricts leg movement, holding poses and adjusting seated positions relied entirely on core and abdominal strength—my core felt significantly stronger the next day! The wig's flowing drape also required constant attention, tossed into the air and caught by fans to capture the most natural fluttering moment.

I handled the post-production myself. In color grading, I deepened the background blues while brightening the subject's warm orange tones to form a vivid cool-and-warm contrast. Special attention was paid to the skin's radiant sheen, adding caustic water-ripple refractions across the body to heighten the submerged atmosphere. Portraying Seira and completing this set with our group was deeply rewarding, fulfilling my vision of Princess Seira. Overall, this shoot met my expectations across costumes, staging, and lighting, standing as one of my most satisfying Mermaid cosplay works recently. Since this is part of a mermaid group project, poses also had to harmonize with the other members; even in solo shots, conveying the weightless glide of swimming underwater was essential. Putting plenty of study into body highlights and underwater caustics really paid off, and I hope the final presentation lives up to everyone's imagination of Seira.
