This set of Tanga Ibuki cosplay photoshoots was filled with various small surprises from finalizing the costume to finishing the shoot. The first things I got in my hands were that pair of bright yellow ankle boots and the black military cap with a golden badge. As the main colors of the overall styling, they stand out sharply amidst the red, blue, white, and black interwoven uniform, perfectly fitting that refreshing and energetic character positioning. To recreate her playful and confident state, we specially chose an outdoor red iron bench as the main shooting spot. The vibrant red bench and the red-and-black wide-sleeved coat form a great visual echo, making the frame colors fuller.
The prop gun held during the shoot is actually much lighter than it looks. For a student character who carries a casual daily vibe but conceals combat attributes, the weapon feels more like a personal tag carried around. Combined with that kraft paper sketchbook printed with "SKETCH," it can be used not only to strike highly interactive poses but also reminds people of her casually recording small inspirations in campus life. There is also that small teddy bear placed beside her, adding a touch of daily life breath to the scene, making her look as natural as if she had casually stopped to rest during a weekend stroll.
The golden twin tails on top of her head and the pointed elf ears are the top priorities for recreating the character. During shooting breaks, I specially adjusted the hat's tilt angle to make the hair strands and ear accessories present a more natural state. Although outdoor photography light is relatively difficult to control, with the help of natural diffuse reflection light, the texture of the red-and-black coat and the pattern of the deep blue skirt hem were beautifully displayed. Especially when sitting down, the red-and-black coat naturally spreads out, paired with the posture of the yellow ankle boots slightly lifted, directly freezing that personality with a bit of playfulness and composure.
In terms of movement design, I lean more towards showcasing her relaxed and casual side—such as tilting her head and resting her chin while looking at the camera, tugging at her hair tips while thinking, or casually resting the prop gun on her shoulder. This unforced contrast instead beautifully displays the character's internal personality tension. The material pairing of this outfit is also interesting; the deep blue skirt hem is relatively matte, while the red-and-black coat carries a certain luster, forming a very nice layer distinction in front of the lens. The atmosphere was completely pleasant throughout shooting this photoset, just like genuinely meeting a junior schoolmate carrying various novel small objects on a summer street, holding a notebook to record snippets of life as part of our Anime-style fashion exploration.
The joy of cosplay lies in recreating a character through costumes, props, and expressions. When stepping into her outfit and trying to communicate with the lens from her perspective, the whole process becomes vivid and interesting. This set of photos not only displays her external color impact but also reveals a leisurely atmosphere belonging to that academy world. The cooperation with the photographer was also highly synchronized, capturing these natural moments almost entirely during the intervals when I was freely playing with the props. Ultimately, the color restoration and texture presentation of the entire work were very close to my inner expectations.
