[Da Qiao cosplay] The Cold and Dreamy Bird in a Cage in Honor of Kings

For this Da Qiao Cosplay photoshoot, from preparation to execution, setting up the scene took the most thought. To restore Da Qiao's setting, we built a huge golden birdcage with blue and white drapes suspended inside; this sense of occlusion can effectively enhance the depth of the frame and make the space more three-dimensional. In terms of clothing, this Da Qiao outfit is dominated by blue and white, heavily using lace and ruffles with multi-layered fabrics, and the combination of bell sleeves adds a sense of lightness. The dark blue strap decoration at the waist is a must, coupled with White stockings, which strengthens the combination of classical and aesthetic appeal in the overall styling, restoring the character's fairy-like vibe while adding some exquisiteness. The light purple wig is matched with an exquisite white lace headpiece, and the eye makeup specially uses blue contact lenses to match the character, making the gaze look cooler.

On the day of the shoot, the prop team prepared a large number of white doves, white lilies, hydrangeas, and candlesticks. These elements are not placed randomly in the frame; some white doves are suspended in mid-air, while others perch on the edge of the birdcage, coordinating with the falling white feathers and petals in the air to bring a sense of flowing wind to the static photos. I held a bouquet of white lilies in my hand, and another pose was lifting the lilies with one hand, which required stretching the arm lines while keeping the gaze looking outside the frame. To match the theme of this shoot, I tried many postures inside the cage. I didn't want to simply display beauty, but rather express a contradictory feeling of cage versus freedom, so I would lean against the railings of the birdcage or sit inside, giving the frame a sense of storytelling.

The camera setup used high-key soft light, with overall bright lighting and no harsh shadows. This set of photos aims to reflect not just superficial gorgeousness, but more importantly, an understanding of the deep setting of the character Da Qiao. 'Those without love are destined to become birds in a cage'—this copywriting was also our core direction during conception. The shooting process actually tested patience a lot because it required coordinating with falling feathers and suspended white doves, capturing the most natural moment every time the shutter was pressed. Moving inside and outside the cage wearing White stockings was not very smooth due to the many gauze drapes and props in the environment, but for the effect in front of the lens, I tried to stretch my limbs as much as possible to make the leg lines look better in the frame. The gorgeousness of this styling mainly comes from the overlapping fabrics and details, such as the white lace at the shoulders and neck; this complex design is very demanding on light. To avoid making the frame look cluttered, we deliberately simplified the background colors, using blue and white as the main tones with gold and silver as accents. The color of the wig is quite special; it was specially thinned and styled so that the side-parted long hair could fall naturally. After the entire set of photos was produced, seeing the colors and atmosphere in the finished products made all the early busyness worth it. This can be considered an attempt to materialize a 2D character, and a continuous exploration of how to better convey the character's personality through lens language.
