The setting for this client shoot was chosen in a classic school building classroom. Rather than presenting battle scenes or a fantasy backdrop, placing the characters in an everyday school environment offers a very unique and grounded form of expression.
Looking at the set construction, the blackboard served as one of the central props. We intentionally left trigonometric function equations written in chalk, accompanied by a set square and a cork bulletin board on the wall—details curated to fit the "campus side story" definition. Soft natural sunlight poured through the window without harsh artificial lighting, preserving that peaceful afternoon warmth.
In terms of outfit styling, we selected academy-style knit vests in dark blue and white color-blocking, paired with white shirts, plaid ties, and pleated skirts for a gentle, cohesive color palette. For accessories, the halos atop their heads and feather wings behind their backs were reinforced with anti-slip mounts. Since we needed to walk around and sit at desks in the classroom, the wigs were carefully styled to ensure smooth, neat edges from every angle.
The core of the shoot lay in capturing the unspoken synergy between the two. As they flipped through a blue-covered book together, their focused yet gentle gazes conveyed an affectionate sibling connection through subtle body language. To highlight this atmosphere, the photographer used a ~50mm focal length to draw the frame closer, keeping edge reflections clean. The English name "Robin" written on the blackboard tied in seamlessly with the academic aesthetic.
The pose in front of the teacher's podium also carried strong visual tension. Facing the lens, gestures were kept as relaxed as possible—such as lightly touching a tie or walking with a textbook. We tried three or four different standing arrangements, including compositions framing both sides of the podium. Naturally opened books on desks and chalk writing on the blackboard served as wonderful visual leading lines, creating an immersive setting without relying on excessive props.
For makeup, I focused on emphasizing the gaze, matching eye makeup tones with the light blue wigs while maintaining a clean, translucent base. Paired with soft contouring, this aimed to convey the character's innate serene and gentle aura. Prior to shooting, we spent considerable time adjusting costume tailoring—especially the vest and pleated skirt pairing—to ensure no prominent creasing occurred when standing or sitting, while maintaining an ideal skirt drape.
Completing the entire photo set took quite some time due to finding logical camera angles and lighting directions within the compact classroom space. Stepping out and reviewing playback frames each time, one could feel the vibrant vitality inherent in such fresh campus photography. Even more precious was genuinely merging into the character states during interactive shots. Narrative driven purely by eye contact and body language without complex action poses—that is precisely what fans love in this genre of work.
Small hiccups occurred during creation—such as chalk dust accidentally rubbing onto clothes or wigs getting caught on chair backs—yet these small details added a touch of authentic slice-of-life reality to the shoot. What viewers see as finished photos is often the culmination of a tug-of-war behind set construction, lighting, and prop logistics. But as long as it restores that lighthearted campus atmosphere we envisioned, all the effort feels entirely worthwhile. The texture captured under natural light also made post-processing smooth, preserving the best state from the moment of capture.
