For this studio session, we produced a finished Persona 5 duo photoshoot centered on Ren Amamiya cosplay and Futaba Sakura cosplay. As someone who closely follows the story routes in P5R, this booked session was the perfect chance to bring this duo into the studio. While social posts often joke about strict devotion versus the harem route of dating everyone, our goal this time was purely to capture the singular bond between Futaba and Ren, bypassing complicated branches to focus solely on the interactions between these two.
Wardrobe preparations on the day of the shoot were meticulous. For my Futaba Sakura cosplay, I chose her signature vibrant orange long straight wig paired with black-rimmed glasses. For attire, the base layer was a black camisole layered under her olive-green parka with a white faux-fur trim collar, paired with black shorts, black Stockings, and chunky lace-up platform boots. This combination created great visual layering; the interplay between the black Stockings and heavy platform boots gave the leg lines a crisp, defined look on camera. My partner as Ren Amamiya wore his classic black blazer with red buttons and crest, layered over a white dress shirt, complemented by those striking red-and-white plaid trousers, black round-frame glasses, and tousled black hair, which instantly locked in the character's signature look.
We chose a pure white studio backdrop with clean, uniform lighting, mainly to make the black blazer, bright orange hair, and olive-green jacket pop with sharp contrast. For props, we utilized a black pillar, a white tabletop, and a black swivel office chair, staging each set of poses around different props.
The first set featured the two separated across the black column—one standing, one sitting—illustrating a distance that felt both independent yet observant. In the second setup, we leaned over the tabletop, locking eyes at close range to capture a sense of candid daily observation. The third setup delivered half-body close-ups looking directly into the lens alongside a black partition, creating a subtly intense, commanding mood. In the fourth sequence seated in the office chair, cosplaying Futaba, I leaned forward on the seat with my legs in black Stockings and platform boots extended naturally, while Ren knelt beside me, leaning in. This pose was quite demanding on core stability, as I had to balance posture and facial expression simultaneously to keep the leg lines looking organic rather than rigid. The photographer captured this angle brilliantly, seamlessly blending the sheen of the Stockings and the heft of the platform boots into the frame.
Embodying Futaba, I find her personality rich with emotional nuance. As a former shut-in, she guards herself against the outside world but gradually opens her heart through her connection with Ren. Throughout the shoot, I consciously adjusted my gaze sharpness and physical tension, shifting from early aloofness to relaxed intimacy in later shots to reflect that delicate emotional transition. My partner as Ren was equally supportive—whether standing behind gently resting a hand on my head or kneeling beside the chair, his movements and line of sight were consistently steady. Overall, I am very pleased with how faithfully we recreated this set; both the tactile textures of the costumes and the dramatic chemistry between the two met all our expectations.
