The convention photos from this year's China International Comics Festival (CICF) are finally organized and ready. First, let's talk about the texture of this ensemble: a red-and-white Lolita dress crafted extensively from plush velvet, which gave off a soft, understated luster under natural outdoor daylight. The massive red bow across the bust and the cascading ruffles of the skirt created rich, voluminous layers. To accurately capture the elf ear and headpiece details, the wig underwent firm heat-setting into twin tails, paired with crimson contact lenses; the complete hair and makeup prep took nearly two hours. Reddish tones were deliberately blended around the eye area, which, paired with the prosthetic elf ears, aimed to convey the whimsical essence of an ethereal fantasy race.

The weather on the day of the convention was sweltering, with the asphalt baking under the scorching sun. While this outfit offered fantastic visual presence, wearing it for outdoor activities was an undeniable test of physical endurance. The red-and-white velvet fabric absorbed heat quickly, forcing us to circle the venue multiple times just to find a patch of shade. Fortunately, we discovered an open spot beside a pedestrian crosswalk, where laying down a white plush mat allowed me to sit and shoot—not only beautifully displaying the tiered spread of the skirt, but also offering a much-needed break for feet tired from wearing heels. The photographer suggested experimenting with varied seated postures: from composed front-facing stances to candid profile angles and forward-leaning perspectives. Before each click of the shutter, I micro-adjusted my neck, shoulders, and waist to capture the most satisfying frames.

Touching on the running joke about being a 'strategic partner of China Southern Power Grid,' it honestly stemmed from all the high-wattage fill lights, camera gear, and the searing 30-plus-degree outdoor heat—I felt like an overheated high-power electrical appliance myself. To prevent the makeup from melting away, touch-ups had to be delicately blotted with tissue paper, and even sipping water required the utmost care through a straw. The wine-red tights (Stockings) visually accentuated leg lines cleanly, though their snug fit served as a constant reminder against overly broad movements. To achieve great photos, these small physical discomforts simply had to be quietly endured.

The most rewarding part of convention photos is exchanging ideas with the photographer regarding light, shadow, and composition. The crosswalk and metallic guardrails in the background actually framed a wonderful urban street aesthetic, as long as one dodged the crowds and used a wide aperture to blur the backdrop into clean bokeh. The color palette of this series primarily highlighted the contrast between wine red and crisp white, with post-processing gently adjusting contrast and exposure to preserve authentic skin tones and garment textures. Applying prosthetic elf ears required special-effects skin adhesive, which pulled slightly when peeled off—a familiar hassle that comes with every cosplay shoot.

As a cosplayer who frequently brings Genshin Impact characters to life, handcrafting and tuning costumes and props is always a trial of patience. For this Klee outfit, from textile sourcing to pattern revisions, many iterations were tested. Klee's buoyant liveliness is notoriously challenging to capture authentically; I strived through my gaze and body language to channel her innocent, bright, and slightly mischievous spirit. Before the lens, beyond maintaining posture stability, I had to stay vigilant about stray wig strands obscuring my face or headpieces shifting askew. Though exhausting toward the end, seeing the finalized selects made every effort feel truly recognized. From wardrobe prep to on-site shooting, the journey was filled with challenges, yet expressing love for the character this way and gathering with so many fellow enthusiasts at the expo is deeply meaningful in itself.
