From preparation to final photos, this sailor suit styling for Sei Sato went through three different scenes. Whenever Sei Sato from Maria-sama ga Miteru is mentioned, the first image that springs to mind is that solitary yet tender silhouette in Lilian Girls' Academy. Therefore, while preparing for this School style cosplay, I spent a long time reflecting on how to portray her seemingly aloof yet deeply soft nature on campus.

Let's talk about the wardrobe and styling first. The black long-sleeved sailor suit features its most recognizable elements in the white collar, large front bow, and black-and-white stripes on the cuffs. To match Sei-sama's temperament, I paired it with a long necklace featuring pearls and a silver crucifix, which serves as the soul of the entire look. The wig chosen was light blonde, trimmed into layered shoulder-length short hair with slightly thick blunt bangs in front, which frames the face nicely and aligns with the classic anime style of that era. The makeup wasn't overly heavy, relying primarily on light-colored contacts and reddish-brown eye shadow smudged around the eyes to convey a melancholic, slightly fragile gaze. The base remained clean and translucent, finished with natural nude pink lips.

We switched between three shooting scenes in total. The first scene was the classroom and library. Sitting in front of the school desk holding documents, or leaning against lockers with a globe in hand against walls of books, the campus vibe immediately came through. I especially love the shots standing by the window, where the white curtains let natural light filter through, giving a soft, ethereal touch. The second scene was a solid studio backdrop. Standing before backdrop paper, resting a hand on my head, folding arms, or sitting on white cube props spreading the skirt hem to highlight white socks and black Mary Jane shoes allowed emotions to be conveyed purely through body language and expressions without distracting backgrounds.

My favorite is undoubtedly the third scene featuring a vintage leather sofa and lattice windows. Leaning back on the deep brown leather sofa or holding a small white tray, this richly textured setting was uniquely suited to convey Sei-sama's elegant yet detached demeanor. During the shoot, I tried to quiet my mind and immerse myself. As written in the copy, she was once hurt in Lilian, yet saved by Lilian—a haven gathering many gentle yet easily wounded souls. Before graduating, she fell in love with this place. To evoke this emotion in the sofa photo, I crossed my legs, let the skirt drape naturally, and drifted my gaze slightly away from the lens with subtle languor and release.

The entire shoot was quite exhausting, especially switching through multiple sets in long sleeves and a long skirt. Yet every time I look at the final images, all the preparation feels worthwhile. I love the quiet, restrained atmosphere across this photo set—supported entirely by subtle details and nuanced expressions rather than theatrical poses. I hope everyone can feel my understanding and love for this character.
