[Meiju cosplay] ChinaJoy August 2 Hustle Diary

The convention halls of ChinaJoy were packed with surging crowds on August 2, and the character I brought to life today was Meiju from Meiju Story. I woke up around 5:00 AM to kick off hair and makeup. To honor her design, the foundation was kept sheer and luminous, concentrating attention on the eye makeup paired with vivid yellow contact lenses. The wig was straight and long with blunt bangs, prepped meticulously the previous evening with leave-in wig conditioner; because drafts blew through the hall today, I had to repeatedly smooth down my sideburns and tips to keep them from tangling or frizzing up.

This Sailor suit cosplay features an off-white long-sleeved silhouette, accented by a deep brown collar edged with two fine gold stripes, paired with a bright yellow neckerchief. The sleeves adopt a subtle lantern cut, finished at the cuffs with dark matching bands and golden trims. Below, it pairs with a black pleated skirt. The textile felt somewhat stifling in the summer heat, but enduring these small discomforts in the hall is simply part of delivering the character's aesthetic.

Today I collaborated with photographer Dunazu. The background was the roll-up promotional banner right at the Meiju Story booth, displaying character key art matching my outfit identically—standing beside it created an enchanting, fourth-wall-breaking harmony. To echo the character's posture on the backdrop, we choreographed several gestures, such as spreading both hands expressively before the chest or brushing fingertips gently through the hair. The photographer is exceptionally skilled at seizing candid motion, allowing me to skip stiff, forced posing and simply stroll past the booth while interacting naturally with the lens to freeze great frames.

Hustling across the exhibition floor all day is genuinely grueling physical labor; trekking for hours in a skirt, wig, and platform shoes left the soles of my feet aching early on. Yet every time players across the hall recognized Meiju, their excitement and delight made every ounce of effort profoundly worthwhile. Many kindred spirits stopped by for meetup photos (Convention photos), sharing brief thoughts on the lore and plot of Meiju Story—an electric camaraderie impossible to experience purely online.

Reviewing the raw camera shots from today, while faint traces of fatigue show on my face, the overarching ambient vibe feels remarkably on point. The tailored cut of this outfit is wonderfully camera-friendly, avoiding any visual bulkiness. The only minor drawback was the chaotic hall lighting, which caused slight color casts in some ambient background lights, though there is ample latitude in post-processing. Portraying Meiju this time checked off a personal milestone and enriched my on-site event repertoire.
