This shoot took place in a seamless white studio to capture an alternate nurse cosplay styling for 2B from NieR:Automata. The creative plan was very defined: utilizing the pristine white background to accentuate the lustrous texture of the black reflective costume, creating a powerful visual contrast.
The garment was crafted from a highly reflective patent leather-like fabric that held a sharp, structured silhouette under studio lighting. The upper body features a high collar paired with a chest cutout design, combined with a skin-tight tailored cut. The wide black belt with a silver square buckle cinched the waistline tightly to accentuate body proportions. Abstract white totems printed across the fabric surface stood out with crisp three-dimensional depth under the lights. To complement this attire, elbow-length black gloves were paired with sheer black stockings on the legs, preserving natural skin texture while reinforcing the overall stern, cool-toned palette.
For the head styling, beyond the silver-white chin-length bob and signature black nurse cap, the makeup was styled with a cool, detached touch. Blue-grey colored contact lenses paired with sharp, clean eye makeup and a deep red lip rendered exceptionally crisp in the high color temperature of the white studio. As for props, a bright blue clipboard was introduced; this pop of color stood out vibrantly amidst the monochromatic black and white scheme, serving as a visual focal point that broke up the monotony of extensive black fabrics.
The posing was divided into two distinct sequences. The first set involved lying on the white studio floor, allowing the leg lines to extend gracefully across the frame while raising the clipboard with my left hand, fixing a direct gaze onto the lens. Maintaining an elegant, rigid posture on a hard floor took noticeable physical effort, particularly holding pointed toes in high heels to project a sense of poised tension awaiting orders. The second set moved onto a cylindrical white stool, a pose far better suited for showcasing bodily curves. Crossing one leg over the other, with the heel resting lightly against the stool's edge while shifting my center of gravity back, gave prominence to the black red-soled high heels—turning the curve of the stiletto and the iconic red sole into compelling details.
White studio photography is remarkably flattering for capturing fabric textures. Subtle lighting tweaks shifted the patent leather's highlights, cleanly defining the garment's structure in the shadows. With wide compositions, positioning the subject and props required multiple micro-adjustments—especially the seated pose on the cylinder, ensuring the subject remained balanced near the center while granting ample negative space for extended leg lines.
The overall shoot was quiet and focused, relying on subtle body language rather than complex interactions to convey the character's alternate presence. While visually striking, the outfit restricted mobility due to its high-necked and body-hugging cut, requiring regulated breathing to keep poses steady. The final frames fulfilled our visual concept, cleanly preserving the subject's silhouette and garment textures against the immaculate backdrop.
