Standing before the backdrop of the Azur Lane booth at BW2026, the interwoven light and shadow from the blue glass window and red staircase washed over me. This ensemble, splicing black leather with white fluffy trim, took on an extraordinary texture under the stage lights. For this convention, I experimented with a dark fantasy style: glossy black leather spliced with semi-sheer mesh, framed by white plush trim at the shoulders and skirt hem, creating a stark black-and-white visual contrast.
The horns on my head, the elongated elf-ear props, and the crimson smudging around my eye makeup were all tailored to lean deeper into the overall dark aesthetic. To complement this outfit, I chose glossy black micro-shorts and sleek, lustrous thigh-high boots for the lower half, leaving a gap styled with semi-sheer Black stockings—this elegantly extended the leg silhouette during movement and posing. Given the convention hall's ambient warmth, wearing leather and mesh was quite a test of makeup longevity, so I invested extensive effort into primer and setting techniques.
Shooting at the booth, the photographer aimed to capture a posture that balanced sharp aggression with languid poise. Thus, I explored poses such as resting a hand against my cheek while standing, or crossing my legs while seated upon the staircase steps; this not only allowed the plush fur rim of the skirt to drape naturally, but also showcased my leg lines beautifully on camera. Holding a black glove, complemented by the wide, flared cuffs of the jacket, I kept my motions fluid and expansive. Red and blue ambient lighting cast across black fabric can easily swallow garment textures, so I paid close attention to angle adjustments to let the light precisely trace the contours of the glossy materials, while keeping facial fill lights balanced to ensure crisp catchlights in my eyes.
The entire shoot was physically demanding—particularly navigating up and down the steps in thigh-high boots, balancing stability while managing facial expressions. Yet reviewing the final cuts made me feel that every bit of the outfit's texture under the dramatic lighting had been faithfully preserved. Wearing this look at the convention also led to encounters with fellow enthusiasts, exchanging tips on prop making, styling, and makeup. Convention photos often require multiple refinements to achieve peak form; this time, from the chromatic clashes to the tactile layering of materials, everything lived up to my expectations—a truly fulfilling record of my BW2026 journey with Azur Lane cosplay.
