The Guangzhou stop of the SHOUT Tour has finally drawn to a successful close! As the Bassist in the band, being able to fully realize the concept of "Galactic Battleship" on a Live stage was an intensely thrilling experience for me. From my personal playing perspective, this setlist was a rigorous test of a musician's comprehensive skill. We had numerous sections demanding relentless, high-intensity output, packed with dense drumming and heavily distorted guitar riffs. To keep the bass sound distinct and punchy in such an aggressive soundscape, I repeatedly dialed in my effects chain and amplifier EQ during rehearsals—boosting the mids slightly and rolling off the highs to ensure the low end solidly anchored the band's foundation. The onstage in-ear monitoring environment was quite tricky, and balancing the mix levels of each instrument in the wedges took time to adjust to. Fortunately, our chemistry as bandmates was rock solid; even when certain subtle nuances weren't crystal clear in the mix, we stayed locked in through eye contact and the rhythm of our breathing.
During the performance, there were grooves where we could relax slightly into the pocket, only for that brief reprieve to shatter immediately as the music swelled into escalating, explosive climaxes. Navigating these dynamic shifts demanded massive physical stamina and laser focus. At times on stage, I would sit on the riser steps to play—a posture that is honestly quite awkward for a Bassist. The core muscles have to stay tightly braced, and the angle of the fretting hand shifts completely. Furthermore, taking stage costuming into account, I had to stay constantly mindful of how my Over-the-knee socks and miniskirt sat while seated, ensuring visual impact without compromising playing stability. The little pink bear plush mounted on the headstock was a subtle detail I adore; seeing it bounce along with vigorous strumming and jumps helped soften the razor-sharp edge of the heavy music.
The lineup for this show was extraordinarily unique: content creators of diverse styles coming together to deconstruct and reassemble the same track is an inherently electrifying form of expression. Watching the keyboardist lose himself working the pitch bender on stage, the vocalist delivering such raw explosive power under the spotlights, and the drummer holding down a groove steady as a mountain—as the Bassist, finding my groove within that soundscape gave me a tremendous sense of security. We didn't need many words; a single beat or chord progression was enough to lock into unspoken synergy.
Huge thanks to Yunshen for assembling everyone in Galactic Battleship. Jamming together with creators from all over in an ACG band was an incredibly precious experience. Thinking back to watching performances in other cities, I always admired their stage charisma. Being invited by the bandleader to participate in this project moved me deeply. Seeing them reclaim the joy of the stage after weathering past storms convinced me that the inspiring power of BanG Dream! will keep driving us all forward.
When the stage lights flared down, it was hard to make out the faces of the audience below, yet the ocean of glowsticks, glowing phone screens, and roaring cheers were vividly felt. Whatever storms or drama happen in life or online communities, during those few hours of rehearsing and playing on stage, only the music and the roaring live energy were real. Every plucked string and every rhythm was an intimate dialogue with the crowd.
Next, Galactic Battleship will be touring to other cities. I will continue fine-tuning my performance to peak condition, bringing a firmer low end and my most passionate stage presence to every single friend who joins us live!
