[Altria cosplay] Fate/Grand Order 4th Anniversary Qipao Meets the Chilly Autumn Breeze of Northeast China

Preparing for this Fate/Grand Order 4th Anniversary Qipao version of Altria took quite some time; having always loved this blue-and-white color palette, portraying this character again after four years brought back so many emotions. Compared to four years ago, my posing, facial expressions, and overall rhythm with the camera have matured significantly. The shooting location was in the autumn wilds of Northeast China; while the photos look bright, sunny, and gently breezy, the temperature was actually hovering near freezing. This lightweight Qipao, along with its inner sheer layers and flowing ribbons styled for aesthetic flair, provided zero warmth, leaving me shivering through the takes. Because the wind was so strong, the wig's ahoge was blown flat almost immediately; while I initially planned to draw it back in during post-processing, seeing the raw frames convinced me that this wind-swept, natural feel added an authentic outdoor vitality, so we left it unedited.

The photographer chose several dynamic angles tailored to the costume and props. In one high-angle shot, the cutout design of the Qipao top paired with the short hem and black thigh-high stockings naturally contoured the leg lines from above, evoking a cool, regal aura befitting a king. This angle tested my body control immensely, as I had to balance gaze direction, facial expression, and posture all at once. The outdoor lighting was harsh, often shot backlit, yet this allowed the lace trim of the skirt and the Black stockings to display a semi-translucent glow under the sun, instantly elevating the atmosphere.

Cosplay is far more than just wearing a costume—especially for a character with such a distinct presence like Altria. Her expressions are harder to restrain than to exaggerate, requiring a subtly discerning, observant gaze. When the breeze swept across the lake, holding a folding fan or raising the umbrella made the character's natural aura emerge effortlessly. Among the final photos, I particularly love the umbrella-holding shots and the side-profile turns looking back, where the focal point of my gaze combined with the wind's direction felt far more alive than a static studio pose. Despite the grueling shoot—battling a runny nose, freezing wind, and stiff limbs—capturing the authentic costume details and demeanor made the whole journey deeply fulfilling. As a longtime fan of the Fate series, portraying this character once again in this manner felt like a cherished, long-overdue gift to myself.
