This time, I'm sharing the classroom cosplay shoot records of Asuka from Neon Genesis Evangelion. The venue chosen was a vintage classroom; the chalk handwriting on the blackboard and the wooden desks had a wonderful retro charm that perfectly fit the school theme, making it a delightful discovery during my Shanghai photoshoot booking.
In terms of costume, I tried my best to recreate her classic school look: a blue jumper skirt paired with a white collared shirt, red bow tie, red hair clips, and long twin tails. The cut of this outfit is quite flattering for body contours. Most notably, the pairing of black stockings and loafers accentuates leg length exceptionally well and stays true to the character's setting.
Regarding posing tips, especially for the pose in Photo 3 where I sit on the desk with legs extended forward—a staple favorite in posing guides—I must remind everyone to tighten your core, let your legs stretch forward naturally, and point your insteps slightly. This showcases the leg lines and the texture of the black stockings beautifully while keeping the subject centered in the frame, making it ideal for a cover photo.
Here are some tips for the other poses as well: In Photo 1, leaning back against the edge of the desk can easily throw off your balance, so distribute support evenly between both hands to keep your upper body upright. In Photo 2, when holding a book to read, pay attention to the jawline angle to avoid a double chin. In Photo 4, when touching the bow tie, keep your fingers naturally curved and avoid pulling at the fabric to prevent unsightly wrinkles. In Photo 5, holding a handheld console requires balanced arm tension and distance so it doesn't block your face, while your eyes look straight into the lens past the edge of the screen. In Photo 6, when holding a bouquet with closed eyes, imagine the scent of the flowers so your expression looks natural and gentle.
The lighting was great on the day of the shoot, and the photographer's lighting setup was very professional, capturing skin texture nicely. During post-retouching, the highlights and shadows on the black stockings were fine-tuned to make the legs appear straighter. Since black stockings tend to reflect light, applying a dusting of translucent powder before shooting helps mitigate harsh glare. The classroom environment also offered great creative flexibility in post-processing, such as the chalk writings on the blackboard.
