City of the Moon, welcome.
This time, I finally shot the official photos of Arcueid Brunestud that I've been longing for. From preparation to location shooting, there are many professional details I want to share with everyone throughout the process.
First, let's talk about the costume and styling. This Blue dress adopts the classic color scheme of royal blue, pure white, and bright gold. The fabric was specially chosen as a glossy satin material, which presents a very beautiful fluid color sensation under strong light. The huge blue flower hair accessory paired with a blue-and-gold striped bow is the visual focal point of the entire styling. To restore the character's detached temperament, blush was toned down in makeup, with a focus on deepening the eye contours, paired with a light-gold waist-length long wig, striving to present the character's noble feeling in front of the lens.
Scene arrangement is the highlight of this shoot. To echo the theme of the City of the Moon mentioned in the post, we built a pure white dreamy space. The core prop is a white upright piano, surrounded by a large number of white lightweight gauze drapes, pearl strings, Roman columns, and vases for decoration. Especially those white reed plumes and blue-and-white artificial flowers, which well filled the negative space of the frame. A bright blue satin sofa chair is laid on the right side, forming a color echo with the costume.
In terms of light and shadow design, photographer @Daigouzi adopted high-brightness cool-toned soft lighting. This lighting method heavily tests the costume material, but it can perfectly create an ethereal, otherworldly dreamy atmosphere. The use of side-backlight created a beautiful halo around the edges of the light-gold long hair.
There were also many interesting experiences during the shoot. For example, in the one sitting in front of the piano with my back to the lens, to make the long train and cape spread out naturally, two assistants were needed behind me to flick the skirt hem, trying no less than ten times to capture the most perfect arc. There was also the pose lying sideways on the sofa; to maintain the smoothness of the body lines while making the heavy skirt hem look light, I kept my core muscles tensed almost the entire time, and a set of actions left me more exhausted than running a few kilometers. The frame touching the piano keys required controlling the texture of the gloves, ensuring the movements weren't too stiff, and the gaze needed to carry a bit of detachment and melancholy.
Actually, the process of shooting this set of pictures is also a continuous dialogue with the character. Through these carefully designed scenes and costume details, I experienced the loneliness and nobility within her. Every press of the shutter is a deepening of understanding toward the character.
