For this Shinjuku Saber Alter shoot, we chose nighttime city streets and a heavy motorcycle as the core backdrop. The original vision was to channel a cold, ruthless, and slightly feral sovereign aura. To match the setting of the Shinjuku Phantom Incident from Fate/Grand Order, we specially sourced a black-and-red motorcycle leather jacket paired with thigh-high boots, combining the heavy sword and bike to bring out that gritty, dark-fringe edge of Altria's persona.
The shooting process had its grueling moments: the black leather jacket offered little breathability, and maneuvering on the bike to hit dynamic poses worked up quite a sweat despite the chilly night air. Walking in over-the-knee boots proved cumbersome, and swinging my leg over the motorcycle bruised my knee against the chassis for days. Yet reviewing the raw frames, that cold, wind-swept ruthlessness shone through unmistakably.
We invested heavy effort into lighting and composition. In the dark urban setting, the photographer used a powerful frontal strobe to suppress the background, turning skyscraper lights into soft, natural bokeh circles. This stark contrast accentuated pale skin tones and the glossy sheen of the leather jacket, pushing the character's dark presence to the max. The greatsword prop was remarkably heavy and rigid, requiring cautious placement to avoid denting the pavement or chipping the edge.
To capture a kingly demeanor, I rarely looked straight at the camera, instead tilting my head slightly with a detached, contemptuous gaze that dismissed the mundane world. Rehearsing these cold angles and neck tension in the mirror kept my presence unyielding. Posing beside the heavy motorcycle—especially the upright stance in Photo 1—elongated leg lines while emphasizing sharp, tailored lines. Modest cool-toned color grading further accentuated the red-and-black palette, turning this immersive character experience into a deeply rewarding shoot.
