Let's jump straight into sharing this third volume of Elysia swimsuit convention photos. When I first saw the design draft for this pink-and-blue swimsuit ensemble, I felt it was perfectly suited for a cool blue-toned lighting environment. Therefore, for this venue selection, we intentionally used a dark background combined with horizontal blue strip lights. The way the light and shadow hit created a powerful contrast with the character's soft pink vibe, and the temperature difference in the color tones just right highlighted the fairness of the skin and the layering of the outfit.
For the makeup and styling, this time I used a certain length of pink short curly hair paired with a white lace headband, instantly bringing out that dreamlike elf cosplay aura. To match the character's translucent feel, the eye makeup was paired with bright blue colored contacts and pink blush on the cheeks, making the overall makeup clean yet slightly playful. The material of the clothing chosen was a relatively lightweight light blue short-sleeved top, with ruffles and a black bow on the chest adding to the richness of details. The shorts section utilized a black-and-white layered ruffled design, paired with a black leg ring, giving the overall look a touch of cool style amidst its sweetness. The white bow straps at the ankles are also a detail I personally love, which, paired with bare feet, gives a strong sense of a summer outing.
During the shoot, the swim ring and the white plush carpet served as excellent interactive props. Especially for the single-leg standing pose in Photo 2, maintaining bodily balance while holding the swim ring in both hands actually placed a certain demand on core control. To capture that natural and relaxed feel, I straightened my instep as much as possible while standing, utilizing the visual extension to elongate the leg lines. In fact, wearing a swimsuit and stepping on a carpet in a studio, the squishy texture underfoot makes it much easier to relax, which also helps with capturing expressions.
We experimented with multiple camera angles for the entire set of photos, ranging from half-body close-ups to full-body shots, and even a few perspectives of lying on the swim ring. For this kind of swimsuit convention photos shoot, the cooperation of light and angles is truly vital. On-site, if one blindly pursues a wide aperture to blur the background, the cool strip lighting effects in the environment might be lost. Thus, we chose to preserve the ambient light and use a slightly darkened background to contrast the character's highlights. During post-processing color grading, we tried our best to maintain the translucency of the skin and the pink wig. I even added a cute doodle post-processing effect on one of the prone photos, increasing the lively anime-style photography feel of the frame, making it perfect for an avatar or a social media post.
Actually, speaking of swimsuit cosplay, many people have some reservations when doing outdoor or studio shoots, such as worrying that their poses won't look natural or not knowing how to hold props. My experience is that you can practice a few poses in front of a mirror before the shoot to find your body's most stretched and comfortable state. With a prop like a swim ring, don't just hold it dryly; you can try using it to block half of your body, lean on it to support your upper body, or even a simple hands-behind-the-back hug will be much better than standing rigidly.
Regarding the shooting venue, this time it was in an indoor studio. If conditions allow, this kind of dark background plus blue light design can yield excellent results even when shooting on cloudy days or at night. However, if this set were shot under the scorching outdoor sun, the intense highlights might cause the wig color to look washed out or white, so choosing the right lighting environment is exceptionally crucial for such light-colored cosplay works.
Having sorted out this third set of convention photos, each shoot is actually an adjustment of one's state. Although this swimsuit look appears lightweight, one must still pay attention to garment wrinkles and static electricity when performing large movements. Fortunately, the final results turned out very well; whether it was the restraint of the cool tones or the softness of the character's own pink hues, a beautiful balance was achieved, bringing a satisfying conclusion to this shooting experience.
