For this shoot of Emilia cosplay from Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-, a lot of groundwork went into makeup, styling, and garment textures. The silver-white long hair took extensive styling; I carefully adjusted the direction of the strands and added subtle curls at the edges so it could flutter gracefully in the breeze. The position of the white flower hair accessory was adjusted multiple times to align naturally with the angle of the Elf ears. The makeup was kept light and understated, mainly using purple eyeshadow blending to create a translucent, luminous look; from the side profile, the contour of the pointed Elf ears looked fantastic on camera. The costume overall is made of white jacquard satin with purple trim, while the lower portion is pieced together with semi-sheer purple chiffon—a fabric that reflects natural light beautifully without feeling overly heavy. Since ambient light in the mountains is rather diffused, we used a reflector for side fill-light to bring out the garment's texture. The white paper prop in hand was folded during pre-production, and unexpectedly added great atmospheric depth when paired with the wide sleeves.
For this shoot, we specifically scouted a spot in the forest where hydrangeas were in full bloom, using a wide aperture to blur the background bamboo and leaves while letting foreground blossoms introduce a touch of color. In the shot looking back at the camera, my gaze aimed to convey the character's serene and cool composure. The entire shoot went smoothly, and with such an outdoor 2D setting and refreshing color palette, I'm very pleased with the final results. Producing any cosplay work takes immense preparation, but faithfully recreating the desired visual effect in photos is a rare, rewarding experience. The garment silhouette was relatively flowy, creating dynamic motion when turning and swirling the skirt hem. The purple-and-white color combination also made the complexion appear radiant on site. For the intricate golden patterns on the outfit, we took special care to preserve them during post-processing to keep the original design intact. Posing-wise, a slight three-quarter turn looking back over the shoulder nicely highlighted facial contours. I even applied plenty of mosquito repellent beforehand—outdoor shoots truly require thorough prep. The session took about two hours, and thanks to great chemistry with the photographer, we captured natural expressions and fleeting moments of the wind blowing through hair strands. Hope everyone feels the unique atmosphere of this Forest exterior set!
