[Hatsune Miku cosplay] White Dress Convention Photos from Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo over New Year's Day

During the New Year's Day holiday, I shot this Hatsune Miku cosplay at the Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo. The venue had very high ceilings, with backgrounds full of black structural pillars and arrayed ceiling lights creating extreme lighting contrast. Therefore, the photographer used multiple auxiliary light sources to brighten the foreground and ensure the overall luminosity of the white dress. The white skirt hem and gold trim needed clear, translucent lighting to showcase their texture. To avoid the background crowd, we used a slightly low-angle perspective, which visually elongated the body and kept the composition clean.

The wig featured extra-long teal twin-tails, which took considerable time to manage—requiring constant combing with a brush, and either waiting for a breeze or using a fan to create natural curves during shooting so the strands wouldn't look stiff. On my legs, the White stockings over-the-knee socks were paired as a set with gold-trimmed high heels; the relatively high heels elongated the lower-body proportions, but standing for long periods was exhausting on the feet, requiring rest breaks and stretching in between shots. The costume fabric was chosen for its shape retention so the pleated skirt wouldn't collapse and could maintain a crisp silhouette while moving. The small golden wing accessories at the waist also required careful pinning to prevent shifting.

With heavy foot traffic at the venue, the photographer used a telephoto lens to compress the background space and constantly searched for gaps to achieve a clean backdrop. To showcase the features of this white dress, we tried various poses, such as crossing hands over the chest or gently spreading my arms to give depth to the pleats and gold accents. Post-processing focused mainly on brightening skin tones, enhancing the eyes, and refining hair details to match that exquisite 2D aesthetic.

The overall styling is anchored by a white and gold color palette, which looked exceptionally bright and clean under the convention's cool lighting. The White stockings reflected the light nicely, accentuating the leg lines. Throughout shooting, the flow of the hair had to be constantly adjusted to avoid obstructing facial features and contours, while keeping facial expressions natural and relaxed. For these Convention photos, I selected a mix of frontal standing poses and slightly turned dynamic angles showcasing the skirt floating in the air.

Although the shoot involved running around a noisy venue, seeing the final images made all the prep work feel totally worth it and achieved my intended texture. Special attention was paid to foot positioning during shooting, ensuring the golden wing decorations on the shoes were presented at their best angle for a smoother, more elegant line. Arm angles were equally important, taking quite some time to naturally reveal the dress slits and skirt hem. The expo experience was truly fulfilling; despite spending considerable time in queue to enter, capturing these photos made the trip worthwhile. This look is a classic design with high visual recognizability, featuring sophisticated color pairing and proportions. Sharing these Convention photos is more than just posting updates—it reflects a deeper appreciation of the character and costume, utilizing camera language to convey all these details into a vivid portrayal.
