For these convention photos featuring Ganyu Lantern Rite styling from Genshin Impact, extensive effort went into the costume, hair, makeup, and props; here is a look into my reflections throughout the session. The entire palette is anchored in ice blue and deep navy, accented by touches of gold and red. The wig was selected in a cool-toned pale blue, styled with curled ends and a distinctive ahoge cowlick at the crown, ensuring the fiber texture matched 2D anime fidelity under the sun. The red-and-black horn accessories on either side of the head required securing snugly against the contours of the skull, taking considerable time to dial in the ideal angle.
For makeup, to highlight the character's temperament, purple enlarging circle lenses were chosen, complemented by pink-blended eyeshadow and intensified blush under the eyes to lend the gaze depth and spirited focus. The costume is rich in detail: semi-sheer black mesh across the chest, extensive deep blue fabric embossed with subtle golden damask patterns, and black opera gloves adorned with pink-and-white motifs. The waistline is accented with red knotted cords, a golden bell, and teal diamond charms, demanding extra mindfulness toward balancing center of gravity. Specialty tattoo stickers applied to the legs adhered smoothly, and paired with black patent leather stiletto heels, visually elongated leg lines substantially.
During shooting, we primarily leveraged modern architectural elements around the venue, such as metallic railing stairs and neutral gray asphalt, using a wide aperture to melt the background into soft bokeh and keep the subject crisp. In terms of props, the semi-translucent circular fan and pale-green oil-paper umbrella easily caught the wind while moving, making firm, controlled grip pressure essential. Poses such as raising a hand to the brow, balancing on one leg, or crouching were all designed to maximize the garment's silhouette and leg contours, while the flowing motion of the hemline while walking added organic dynamism to the frames. The shooting process was physically demanding with continuous balance and expression resets, yet seeing the final selects capture the vision was immensely gratifying.
