[Aoi cosplay] YOU and ME and HER: A Love Story academy's radio-wave girl - Image 1

Today I shot Aoi from YOU and ME and HER: A Love Story, taking advantage of the good weather to release this set of photos. This outfit looks quite daily, but wearing it still requires some detailed adjustments. The wig is pink, reaching the chest; to maintain that natural drape and slight wavy shape, trimming and styling took quite a bit of time beforehand and afterwards. The focus of the makeup was placed on the eye makeup, using a relatively obvious style of eyelashes, matched with contact lenses to reinforce the character's gaze traits.

On the clothing side, the outer layer is a beige coarse-knit cardigan with a relatively thick texture. Because the cardigan is loose, a white shirt with a sailor collar was worn underneath, with a black bow tied at the neckline, creating a sense of layering. The lower body is paired with a white-based, black-bordered pleated skirt, with a length above the knees. To modify the leg shape, black knee-high socks were worn, paired with a pair of black platform shoes with metal buckles. The overall color tone is beige, white, black, plus pink hair. To prop up this knit cardigan, an extra base layer was worn inside, and coupled with the not-so-low outdoor temperature today, I actually broke a bit of a sweat.

The shooting scene was chosen as an open-air overpass or platform with a metal mesh fence. Behind is a blue sky and white clouds, with a very broad view. On the left is a sign reading "Kakiaien", and on the right are some white parasols, giving a strong urban street corner feel. To take this photo holding the phone for a selfie, the right arm had to be stretched upward as much as possible, while the body leaned slightly sideways, supported by waist strength. Because the phone lens is relatively wide, the low-angle shot angle can just elongate the figure and completely incorporate the background sky into the frame. Holding the phone for a selfie really tests arm strength; to keep the posture stable, I shot about a dozen pictures before choosing one I was satisfied with.

The character's temperament is rather special, a bit of a radio-wave type. In front of the lens, I tried to keep my expression calm, looking straight into the lens, exuding a faint sense of detachment. That action of holding up the phone also seemed like recording something or transmitting some kind of signal. During the shoot, the wind blew the hair a bit messy, which instead added a casual feel. The hem of the pleated skirt would also sway with the wind, requiring constant attention to the skirt's state.

Mobile photography is very intuitive in color reproduction, so looking at the screen on-site can determine whether a reshoot is needed. Pink hair has a strong color impact against a blue sky background, and without extra filters, it's already very photogenic. The light was direct, so to avoid excessive shadows on the face, the chin angle was slightly adjusted so the light could hit the face evenly. Because the cardigan is relatively large, when raising hands, the sleeves slid down, revealing the shirt cuffs underneath, and this detail was also captured.

This shoot overall pursued a daily urban street scene feel, without using very complex lighting and equipment. Restoring a character is not just about putting on clothes, but also experiencing her state at this moment. Although this styling looks simple, to capture that specific atmospheric feeling, one still needs to put effort into body language. If there is an opportunity later, I'd like to try outdoor shoots under different weather conditions, or add some more story-driven props to enrich the frame, further perfecting the overall presentation of this character. The process of doing cosplay is like this: from clothing preparation to actual shooting, every step requires considering many realistic factors, but seeing the final photos makes all the trouble feel worthwhile.
