[Plana cosplay] Quiet afternoon in Blue Archive: A girl holding a black umbrella

This shoot was located beside a guardrail along a stretch of road. Instead of intentionally seeking extravagant artificial sets, we felt this natural light and slightly quiet outdoor environment fit Plana's quiet, somewhat distant temperament particularly well. The white wig was styled smoothly this time; flat bangs and side curves took quite a while to adjust, ensuring the red halo and white bow hair accessory overhead were firmly secured without making the wig look bulky. The metal buckle on the choker and collar position were adjusted several times to ensure a stable visual center from top to bottom. Regarding props, this black umbrella was custom-made; printings on the handle and pendant details feature high accuracy. Holding it feels moderately weighted, serving as a helpful tool to block wind or light reflections during the shoot.

To be honest, retouching progress has been quite slow recently. After exporting the raw photos, they sat on my computer for a while, but the atmospheric feel of this raw set made me fall in love at first glance. Under backlit conditions, hair edges glow with soft rim lighting, making it feel as if one is melting into the evening breeze. The sailor suit fabric leans thick; the deep navy blue looks very flattering on skin tone under the lens, and this classic uniform style brings an inherent youthful aura that pairs perfectly with Plana's setting. During the shoot, I refrained from making overly exaggerated expressions, maintaining a cool, tranquil gaze—because I feel this character doesn't need excessive emotional display; that restrained, quiet relaxation is the core.

As for cosplay details, high-temperature synthetic fiber was used for the wig; though prone to frizz, final photos render a shine superior to standard fibers. To avoid weird reflections under wide apertures during the shoot, I selected a semi-matte soft rubber material for the red halo, which preserved styling without creating post-processing lens flare headaches. White borders on the sailor collar were hand-stitched with hidden seams to maximize front cleanliness. The detail requiring the most care across the entire look was actually the black choker; neck circumference and buckle placement had to be precise, or lowering my head would choke the jawline, requiring two or three fitting test runs.

I honestly posted this with a casual "quick preview first" mindset, as the full set hasn't been completely retouched yet, but I was exceptionally happy with this candid moment captured. Wind lifting hair ends and the umbrella pendant swaying gently created a blend of dynamic and static elements that perfectly expressed what I wanted to convey. Many friends have asked how I pick outdoor locations; as long as lighting is right, even an ordinary roadside can yield Atmospheric photography filled with narrative depth. Moreover, I particularly love backgrounds free of clutter, where negative space ratios between subject and surroundings sit just right.

Speaking of prop usage, beyond acting as a styling element, this umbrella played a key role in controlling lighting ratios during shooting. For instance, in this photo, shadows cast by umbrella ribs fell right across one side of the face, adding three-dimensional contour to the cheek, while light on the other side illuminated hair strands and the red halo—a contrast between light and shadow difficult to fully replicate in post. Thus, before shooting, I communicated rough angles with the photographer and fine-tuned my posture to form a stable triangular composition between prop and body, keeping the frame grounded.

In truth, what brought me the most joy in this cosplay was detail accuracy. From overall styling to tiny accessories, everything was prepared as closely to original settings as possible; though tedious, seeing the final photos made every effort worth it. Routine maintenance for white hair styling requires patience, needing washing and combing after every shoot, but to present the closest look to the character, these are necessary steps. Additionally, the sailor suit pleated skirt sways naturally while walking, so we intentionally picked breeze-swept moments during shooting to harmonize skirt and hair movement.

Tonal processing for this set didn't rely on exaggerated post-editing; background greens were mainly desaturated to keep visual focus centered on the subject, while soft grey-white sky tones were preserved to evoke a hazy overcast feel. Personally, I feel this color grading suits Plana's demeanor—unpretentious yet distinctly recognizable. Finally, regarding the shooting process, cars occasionally passed by along the road, so we hurried to press the shutter; thankfully, we captured this most satisfying shot. Recording that moment of quiet focus is precisely the greatest charm of this kind of photography.
