Preparing and shooting this Wakaba Mutsumi cosplay client set took about two weeks, primarily waiting for a suitable classroom venue. The dark blue Sailor suit and grayish-purple bow tie are the core of this look; to find a navy shade that wasn't overly vivid, I visited physical stores multiple times. The wig chosen was this pale green model, which I trimmed at the tips myself to add layers and avoid looking stiff.
The greatest challenge on the day of the shoot was actually that pink electric guitar. Being a real instrument, it was much heavier than expected, and holding it while adjusting angles easily fatigued my shoulders and arms. Especially for the second photo—seated on a chair looking down while plucking strings—we had to adjust repeatedly to look relaxed and natural while properly balancing the guitar body with the folds of the skirt. Taking a deep breath to relax finally captured that downward gaze, which intentionally avoided the lens to cultivate a serene, undisturbed aura.
The side light in the classroom was exceptional, but to subdue strong background glare, the photographer utilized large diffusion panels, making skin tones appear fair and translucent. Makeup emphasized cleanliness: light eye makeup focusing on lower lashes and amber contact lenses, combined with a pale complexion to create a cool, somewhat detached presence.
The third photo, standing with the guitar slung over my back, is a personal favorite composition; the negative space on the left gives the frame breathing room. I cooperated with the photographer by angling my body slightly to the side, gazing toward the right edge of the frame rather than directly into the camera to keep the pose fluid. As for the first photo, to showcase leg lines, I sat atop a classroom desk with slightly pointed toes; the black Over-the-knee socks and loafers against the warm yellow desk created a clear focal point.
While editing at home after the shoot, I cross-checked details against our initial storyboard sketches, such as the direction of the skirt pleats and ensuring the 'SCHECTER' lettering on the guitar headstock wasn't blocked. Every shoot holds unique highlights; I love this quiet, melancholic vibe and hope everyone feels the character's distinct temperament.
When getting into character, since she is not an expressive or outgoing personality, emotions had to be conveyed through gaze and physical stillness. During breaks, I deliberately emptied my thoughts to minimize facial expressions; paired with natural light and shadow, this tranquil blankness was the ideal state. The entire shoot was very relaxing, feeling like a quiet afternoon Campus photography experience in an Anime cosplay setting.
