A lot of thought went into the set design and action choreography for this Arknights Ptilopsis "Among the Clouds" skin photoset. The Vol.3 photoset is finally meeting everyone. On the day of the shoot, the studio was decorated with a large number of cherry blossoms and bamboo curtains. To fit this quiet and somewhat celestial atmosphere, we used a lot of warm backlighting in the lighting setup. Looking through the viewfinder of the Sony A7M5, when the light penetrated the gauze sleeves and hair strands, the texture was extremely translucent.
In terms of wig and makeup, this time we specially chose a greyish light silver, paired with red contact lenses, to reflect Ptilopsis's cold and detached vibe. The feather hairpiece on top of the head is the soul of this styling, and I kept adjusting its angle during breaks to ensure it looked natural.
There are many costume details: the dark blue straps and metal fasteners on the chest and waist, as well as the large area of translucent gauze material. When sitting or reclining, the skirt hem needs to be constantly adjusted to show nice layering. A more interesting prop is the white owl plush toy, which, along with the guqin, Go board, and folding fan, constitutes the entire traditional Chinese style scene. Especially in the photo leaning on the guqin table, I tried to lower my center of gravity to make my body lines more stretched, and the photographer happened to freeze that relaxed state during a candid shot.
The pairing of white stockings with this costume featuring traditional elements visually has both classical charm and a hint of 2D lightness. The whole shooting process was actually quite tiring; the wooden floor was hard, and lying on it for a long time required core strength to keep the posture looking good. But seeing the soft light, shadow, and atmosphere in the finished photos, I felt all the hassle was totally worth it.
The layering of the "Among the Clouds" outfit is extremely rich. When wearing it, to ensure the drape of the gauze on the arms, the positions of the shoulder straps and inner lining need to be carefully adjusted to avoid looking bulky. On the makeup side, to highlight Ptilopsis's setting, the smudging range of the eye makeup was larger than usual daily makeup, and the red contact lenses looked particularly deep under the warm light. The bangs of the wig needed to be styled with wispy hair textures, and coupled with the two feather-shaped hair accessories on top, the visual center of gravity of the entire head styling leaned higher, which requires the body posture during photography to be upright or have a strong sense of extension.
The equipment used for the shoot was the A7M5 paired with 24-70mm F2.8 GM II and 50mm F1.4 GM. These two lenses are very flexible in capturing character close-ups and half-body shots in indoor spaces. The 50mm focal length, when shooting reclining poses, can bring out the surrounding cherry blossoms and scroll environments by pulling back slightly, while maintaining natural facial perspective without distortion.
We laid some white gauze sheets on the ground, matching the texture of the wooden floor to form a cool-warm contrast. Although the photos look quiet, the site was actually a physical task. To shoot a few different postures, I repeatedly adjusted positions on the guqin table, cushion, and floor. In the photo holding a teacup, to prevent the wide sleeves from blocking the composition focus, I used the clever strength of my wrist to spread the fabric, while recalling Ptilopsis's usual personality traits in my mind, acting out that calm yet slightly detached gaze. The Go board and owl doll are not only background ornaments, but also good helpers for guiding actions; petting the owl or supporting the chin with one hand can make the limbs less rigid.
