[Theresa Cosplay] Arknights Demon King: A Different Way to Experience Convention Photos

Just as mentioned in the post about 'wanting to see the flower sea inundation,' this Demon King Theresa outfit with its black winged gown was a key shoot I planned for this anime convention. Compared to exquisite studio shoots, capturing the character's sacred yet majestic temperament amid the complex lighting and bustling crowds of a live convention poses a major test for the photographer and cosplayer's real-time synergy.

Let's start with the texture of the outfit. This black Gothic gown is considerably heavier than expected, especially with the draped skirt on the lower half and the white feather decorations on the sides and back waist. Though the overall silhouette is gorgeous, it undeniably restricts mobility. However, this restriction actually helped me get into character, requiring me to keep a straight posture at all times so the feathers' curves appeared natural and fully extended. To restore the character's demeanor on-site, a lot of thought went into styling the wig. The pale silver-pink long hair needed to be fluffy enough without looking frizzy, reaching the state shown in the photos only after repeated combing and setting. Maintaining the wig's layers throughout the day despite high venue temperatures and moving around became a primary task alongside posing.

The shooting process for these two photos was particularly interesting. The first photo was taken in a venue area featuring a sacred architectural style. It had white arches, intricate openwork window frames, and pristine classical statues nearby. The photographer and I favored the soft lighting in that spot, which, paired with purple floral accents, perfectly evoked the sacred atmosphere required for the 'Flower Sea Inundation' theme. I personally really love this composition—it doesn't overpower the subject while offering excellent background support for the outfit's color scheme, making the high contrast between black and white look exceptionally rich under the diffused warm light.

The second picture features an entirely different style. Taken right before wrapping up, it was a quick low-angle shot grabbed along a exhibition hall passage. The background in picture 2 reflects a classic convention hall—grey concrete floors, high industrial steel roof trusses, and somewhat cold overhead lighting. Although the background lacks extravagant elements and is extremely ordinary and open, this sharp contrast between 'everyday convention vibes' and 'gorgeous character' creates a unique theatrical tension. During picture 2's shoot, the small white circular rug at my feet was our only tool to frame the area; combining the low angle with a skirt-lifting pose instantly maximized the character's powerful presence.

For convention photos, ambient lighting is always the biggest variable. Natural light streaming through large high windows mixes with industrial spotlights of varying color temperatures, easily making pictures look washed out or color-cluttered. However, from my shooting experience, as long as you pick the right angle and make full use of geometric lines—such as vertical lines and horizontal space extension—you can quickly highlight the subject amid a chaotic background.

I was thrilled to appear at the convention as Theresa. Whether presenting a gentle, sacred posture or a slightly imposing presence in the middle of a convention aisle, these represent my ongoing attempts as a cosplayer to express character depth. Though the outfit details were complex, the moment the camera froze time made all the effort and sweat truly worthwhile. From the character's sacred aura to the realistic feel of the venue, these two shots showcase the unique charm of Demon King Theresa from different perspectives.
