Shooting this Zenless Zone Zero Remielle cosplay at the anime convention was truly a test of utilizing lighting and space. High metal trusses spanned across the ceiling of the venue, creating very complex ambient lighting alongside interference from various booth lights. To secure a clean backdrop, the photographer specifically selected a venue corner and used a telephoto lens with a wide aperture to blur the background.
Regarding costume details, this outfit is a white, blue, and pink gradient tulle dress with a strong sense of design. While the translucent tulle sleeves on the shoulders look gorgeous, they wrinkle easily, requiring meticulous care to maintain their light and airy drape. The blue ribbon at the waist and the chest ornaments easily shifted while walking, needing repeated readjustments. The most cumbersome part was the long tulle train at the back; though it looks magnificent in photos, walking just a few steps in the crowded venue meant it kept getting stepped on, so I had a friend carry it for me throughout the event.
The lower body was styled with garter White stockings paired with white high heels, an essential element of the overall look that beautifully flattered the leg lines. To showcase better proportions, I had to keep my back straight and point my toes down while posing. Standing in high heels for a long time made the soles of my feet ache, but I endured the discomfort to hold the pose for the sake of the photos.
This time, I chose to sit on a high stool with legs crossed naturally, body leaning slightly forward, resting one hand on my knee and placing the other across my chest. The photographer used a low-angle perspective with a wide-angle lens, a composition that significantly elongated the leg silhouette while lending rich depth to the skirt layers. To prevent the skirt from looking disheveled, an assistant helped hold its edges just out of frame.
For styling, the short pink wig was carefully styled and paired with star-shaped hairpins, with subtle curls along the edges. The Elf ears were attached using specialized adhesive; they adhered snugly, though wearing them for extended hours created a pulling sensation. The makeup intentionally featured cool tones to match her aloof demeanor, with eye makeup emphasizing the gaze so it remained sharp even from low-angle shots.
Due to the heavy foot traffic at the convention, passersby frequently walked into the frame, necessitating numerous snapshot retakes. The camera was set to a high shutter speed to capture fleeting moments, working in tandem with natural light from the side of the exhibition hall to highlight the translucent quality of the white tulle. In post-processing, we mainly cleaned up the cluttered floor in the background and adjusted the lighting ratio to prevent the white tulle dress from blowing out into flat white, preserving the fabric's sheer texture while refining the skin texture.
Overall, this set of photos was accomplished despite the somewhat challenging environment. Recreating that powerful aura of Zenless Zone Zero's Remielle required many compromises in costume styling, posing, and shooting angles, and I'm very satisfied with the final result of this Convention photography.
