[Ptilopsis Cosplay] Arknights Fuyunjian Outfit: Collision of Sniper Rifle and Traditional Style

The photoshoot for this new Fuyunjian skin has successfully wrapped up! Looking over the unedited raws, it's a great time to share our shoot planning and on-site insights.

This look stems from Ptilopsis in Arknights, featuring her traditional-style Fuyunjian outfit. To capture her aloof yet secretly adorable character design, the costume layers light blue translucent gauze over a white cross-collar shirt. The feather headpiece carries a light, airy texture, which, paired with linen-colored ear tips and a small bell dangling from her choker, creates a sharp visual focal point—balancing traditional Chinese elegance with her inherent mechanical and medical operator traits.

The shoot took place in a wooden Japanese-style studio corner featuring translucent paper windows and calligraphy screen partitions. Natural light poured in from the side-rear angle; catching the right alignment produced beautiful volumetric light beams, rendering hair strands and sheer sleeves delightfully translucent. Prop selection was delightfully playful this time: a sniper rifle equipped with an optical scope and bipod sat prominently alongside a chubby owl plushie. Placing a cold, hard modern firearm next to a soft plush bird on a woven bamboo futon mat created a striking contrast—capturing what I consider the true essence of Ptilopsis: an operator capable of delivering precise sniper fire on the battlefield, yet also a quiet observer analyzing medical reports on the bridge.

For the first pose, I leaned back against the wooden floor's edge, resting the rifle between my legs with the barrel resting across my shoulder as the soft gauze skirt spread naturally on the ground. Selecting a 24-70mm lens at the wider end allowed us to frame the surrounding environment, capturing scattered petals and tatami straw textures while highlighting the soft sheen of my white thigh-highs under warm lighting. Paired with a subtle head tilt, the overall impression felt relaxed yet held the quiet alertness of a professional sniper.

We also shot a detailed close-up of a Go board section. My hand reached into the frame with fingertips holding a white stone poised to strike, its smooth rounded top forming a humorous visual standoff with the owl plush's big round eyes. This quiet snapshot leaves more to the imagination than a straight facial portrait, as if an unhurried, silent tactical match were unfolding. Speaking of gear, using the Sony mirrorless camera (A7M5) paired with the 50mm F1.4 GM lens for portrait close-ups delivered outstanding performance; even in high-contrast light and shadow boundaries, autofocus stayed razor-sharp, and the tactile shutter feedback captured the decisive moment of placing the Go stone smoothly.

As natural light faded later in the shoot, my assistant placed a continuous fill light outside the paper window to simulate a warm sunset glow. This golden hue softened the blue-and-white color palette of Ptilopsis's outfit, preventing it from looking washed out. I also experimented with covering my left eye with an eyepatch gesture, resting my fingers over my eye while mimicking a casual sniping aim—transforming what could have been a strict sniper persona into something far more playful and charming.

Overall, despite generating a large volume of final shots, my personal favorites remain those combining stillness and motion—capturing both the sharp intensity of holding a rifle solemnly and the quiet leisure of resting my chin in my hands gazing blankly at a Go board. Seamlessly blending modern military gear with flowing traditional gauze naturally demands careful tuning of costume and prop coordination, and the Fuyunjian design provided a wonderful canvas for creative expression. With proper lighting and the right camera equipment, bringing those envisioned scenes to life becomes a smooth process.

Next time I encounter a character with such a unique mashup aesthetic, I'll definitely shoulder the sniper rifle and grab the owl plush for another full studio day without hesitation.
