[Patchouli Cosplay] Dreaming in a Touhou Project Vintage Bedroom

I'm not fully awake yet, Mukyu~

Sharing this set of photos indeed makes me feel like I am still immersed in that lazy morning state. I didn't try to force any exaggerated poses; I just wanted to recreate the daily life of this magician from Touhou Project in her library—her love for reading, her dislike of trouble, and her fondness for solitude.

The preparation for this outfit took a lot of effort. The purple short hair wig is one of the core characteristics of the character. To give the hair ends a natural layered look, a lot of time was spent trimming and styling beforehand. The glasses are semi-rimless, which highlights the eyes without blocking too much of the facial contour. The hat is arguably the highlight of this look, featuring layered lace ruffles paired with pink and mint green bows. Fine wire was embedded inside to support its shape, ensuring it wouldn't collapse when walking or looking down to read. The dress itself is a combination of large areas of sheer tulle and purple satin splicing. The cuffs feature exaggerated flared lace ruffles, and the mint green big bow at the collar adds a bright pop of color to the overall pink and purple tones, making the look visually refreshing.

The photoshoot was set in an exquisitely decorated vintage bedroom. The deep reddish-brown solid wood furniture is highly textured, and the pillars of the bed frame and the carved details of the headboard look very steady under the warm light. On the table sit an old-fashioned rotary phone and European candlesticks, with several gold-framed classical portraits hanging on the wall and a vintage wooden picture frame standing nearby. These environmental details layer together to instantly bring out a rich narrative feel. For props, we prepared several heavy foreign books, a blank journal, and a vase of vibrant purple flowers, which coordinates beautifully with the colors of the outfit.

The play of light and shadow in this set is truly the soul. The photographer used a very warm sunset-like glow, or rather, a light that resembles the first morning rays breaking into the room. The backlighting gilded the character's silhouette with a golden halo, shining through the layered lace of the skirt hem with a soft, warm luster. Especially in those shots where I sit on the floor leaning against the bed flipping through the journal, with light spots scattered across the floor, this interplay of highlights and shadows gives the character a wonderful sense of breathing room.

I designed several daily-life poses. Sometimes sitting on the edge of the bed spacing out, sometimes sitting on a red carved wooden chair pretending to write with a quill pen, or simply leaning lazily against the floor with my legs stretched out. To complement this lazy vibe, I specifically paired the look with white socks with lace trim and matching plush slippers, creating a cute contrast with the voluminous purple petticoat. When the skirt hem spread across the floor, the draping and stacking of the fabric looked incredibly soft and gentle. The overall pace of the shoot was quite slow, and the photographer was very patient. We chatted about the character setting while gradually capturing the changes in light and angles.

I usually do studio shoots, but a realistic vintage solid wood room built inside a studio instead allows me to immerse myself more deeply into the character. There is no need to deliberately strike combat poses; simply sitting quietly amidst a pile of books and vintage ornaments brings out a perfectly fitting sense of tranquility and peace. I feel this portrait-style cosplay presentation makes the character feel more three-dimensional. I hope this photoset brings everyone a relaxing vibe, making you want to curl up in a warm room and read books all day long.
