Under the cool-toned studio lights, this Catgirl cosplay sweet-style set was wrapped up successfully. When discussing the concept with the photographer, I wanted to break away from the predictable routine of cloying sweetness and incorporate the authentic state of lounging at home, inspiring this oversized black T-shirt printed with 'sleep deprivation,' paired with twintails, cat ears, and a feline tail.
To build visual contrast, I styled denim micro-shorts on the bottom alongside sheer over-the-knee Black stockings. The loose, slouchy top against the slender legs balanced an effortless casual mood while highlighting body proportions beautifully. For makeup, pairing twintails with thin-framed black glasses cut through the typical sweetness of a catgirl, infusing a hint of bookish charm and late-night realism. The props featured black-and-white fluffy cat ears and a tail that swayed gently with my movements, looking remarkably lively before the lens.
The set was staged in a pure grey-and-white studio, keeping the background minimal to emphasize interactions between the subject and props. Fitting the theme of Stay-at-home snacks indulgence, the floor was strewn with junk food and drinks: a large bottle of Coca-Cola, various flavors of BIG cup noodles, Lay's chips, and Pocky sticks casually scattered around white plinths. Shooting was physically demanding. To emulate a feline's natural posture, I tried perching atop a white cube with hands curled into soft cat paws, or lying prone and reclining sideways on the floor with legs kicked up. Holding snacks or a cup of noodles while gazing into the lens channeled that midnight snack craving, looking as if asking someone on the other side of the screen for a bite. The photographer excelled at capturing these candid moments, using high-contrast cool white lighting to render the image crisp and translucent.
Using an 85mm prime lens for waist-up shots, we prioritized facial expressions and subtle hand gestures. Cradling a Coke bottle or offering a Pocky stick toward the camera created an engaging, interactive viewpoint that drew viewers in. After shooting all afternoon and continually interacting with Stay-at-home snacks, I even took real bites of instant noodles during pauses. Merging everyday streetwear with anime aesthetics yielded a wonderfully natural finish.
