I finally had the opportunity to shoot this Bunny girl look for Laffey from Azur Lane. The blue-and-white color palette of the entire outfit looks very refreshing, while the generous use of plush materials along with the bunny ears faithfully recreates the character's lazy and cute charm. Before the shoot, I communicated with the photographer about wanting to convey a cozy, homely atmosphere, so we chose a set featuring a European-style upholstered sofa and white sheer drapes, paired with soft lighting to maintain a cohesive tone and highlight the costume's lustrous texture.
This glossy blue bodysuit is actually crafted with great care, featuring a subtle metallic sheen. The white sailor collar and wide cuffs add visual depth. The ring of white plush pom-poms on the cuffs took a lot of effort to make, as we needed to ensure both fluffiness and durability so they wouldn't fall off during posing. Paired with several small bunny plush props in hand, it brought out a wonderful sense of interaction.
To capture Laffey's signature sleepy and lethargic demeanor, I opted for casual, everyday seated postures. The seated pose in the first photo is poised and natural, while interacting on the floor in the third photo was quite a test of core strength to ensure the outfit stayed properly positioned. The combination of White stockings and high heels serves as one of the visual centerpieces of this look. The glossy black block heels adorned with little bunny motifs on the toe caps echoed the theme while elongating the leg lines, and together with the White stockings, they looked fantastic on camera.
For the makeup, I chose reddish eye makeup paired with a light silver-purple long straight wig, giving the gaze a drowsy yet sharp look. Styling the wig took some time, as I had to ensure the hair remained sleek and smooth without covering the mounting base of the bunny ears.
Regarding the set, the carpet patterns and sofa carvings were quite intricate, so to prevent visual clutter, I added white sheer drapes in the background, which also enhanced the dreamy ambiance. The photographer adjusted the lighting angles to sculpt the shoulders and body lines with greater dimensionality. However, this glossy material is prone to harsh reflections, so we repeatedly fine-tuned the camera angle and flag positions during shooting to achieve these evenly lit shots.
When styling the White stockings, I tested both tights and thigh-high garter stockings; ultimately, to better match the character's clean and airy design, I chose high-density pure White stockings. The benefit of these stockings is that when light hits the legs, it creates a soft highlight that nicely balances the weight of the black high heels. Additionally, the plush pom-poms on the arms and hanging from the outfit naturally sway with larger movements, which would be fun to capture dynamically, though this shoot focused mainly on static character portraits.
This look includes many accessories—the bunny ear headband, blue bows, bunny charms, and the bunnies on the shoes—all of which were carefully checked and secured before shooting to prevent them from looking cheap or crooked before the camera. Overall, the final photos achieved the lighting and textural quality I envisioned, highlighting the distinct gloss and fluffy textures of the costume while bringing out Laffey's unique aura. Posing in high heels was indeed tiring, but seeing the complete styling and graceful lines in the final images made all the effort truly worthwhile in this cosplay project.
