Taking advantage of the lingering festive mood, I've finally delivered this set of Lunar New Year Chinese style Cheongsam cosplay photos of Cheshire to everyone.
The entire look is a fresh modified Chinese-style attempt built upon the character's core personality. The main garment is a halter-neck modified cheongsam in red with gold embroidery; the jacquard embroidery on the chest and skirt hem offers brilliant luster feedback under the warm studio lighting. The white trim at the neckline contours the neck, which, paired with the off-the-shoulder tailoring, creates a cleaner, more breathable visual appeal. The centerpiece is the thick white fur shawl draped over the shoulders and arms, alongside that long, voluminous fluffy white tail at the back, maxing out Cheshire's signature adorably fluffy charm with a wonderful tactile texture. The high-slit design of the lower garment is a key highlight of the look, utilizing White stockings with garter straps and vivid red platform high heels to create a contrasting color clash that dramatically elongates the overall leg lines.
The wig retains the iconic grey base with blue gradient highlights at the tips, providing rich layering. The headwear design balanced traditional festive spirit with anime-style exaggerated flair: atop the white lace-textured cat-ear headband are two massive pure-red velvet peony flowers complemented by hanging red tassels, delivering a festive holiday spirit without feeling overly heavy. The white round fan in hand is similarly embellished with a delicate red rose; these recurring red elements echo each other harmoniously, establishing a very comfortable color balance across the frame.
The shooting location matched the theme perfectly. Utilizing the layout of a local authentic traditional studio in Chongqing, the background features dark wooden latticework, moon gates, and striking vermilion walls. Paired with two handmade-textured red paper lanterns overhead and white plum blossom branches extending into the frame, the entire space boasts immense visual depth and rich festive quality. Particularly in several seated shots on the Luohan bed and armchair, the wooden grain creates an ingenious interplay of light and shadow against the silky and fluffy textures of the outfit.
Working with photographer Maomi was also effortless and harmonious. Due to the high slit of this costume, controlling sitting postures and handling the prop fan required practicing numerous angles to maintain overall gracefulness while naturally showing off the leg silhouette and red shoes without throwing off the balance of the composition. To achieve this visual synergy, we also tried looking back over the shoulder and crossed-leg poses to better present the lines from the back and side. The natural draping of the fluffy big tail when seated was another detail to consider, and in the final photos, both the structural harmony and sense of dynamism turned out exceptionally well.
By the way, we shot a massive amount of footage in pre-production, so the video on the original poster's end is still being furiously edited. It might feel like it's been delayed for a while, but great work is always worth waiting for. I hope to deliver the video content of this look to everyone very soon. This shoot was a detailed endeavor in the cheongsam genre, building upon the character's original image through tailored cuts and tactile material clashes, ensuring the cosplay delivers both strong recognition and refreshing novelty. That wraps up my insights and process breakdown for this Cheongsam cosplay Cheshire shoot.
