Today, I wrapped this set of Dusk cosplay in a classical architectural garden. To harmonize with the weeping willows and lotus leaves in the background, a lot of thought went into hair and makeup. The wig featured a black-and-green split; to achieve that wind-tousled look, plenty of styling spray was worked into the roots. While the branch-like horn ornaments atop my head and the elf ear props looked stunning on camera, they were rather heavy, leaving my neck genuinely stiff after a full day of wear. To honor the character's flowing gossamer wardrobe, I brought two complete looks. The first was a white-and-green gradient sheer gown that possessed breathtaking light translucency under the sun, accented at the chest with red cords and metallic trinkets, alongside deep-green gloves patterned with cloud motifs. The second was a more combat-ready ensemble: a raw-hem white sleeveless top layered beneath a dark jacket, red ribbons trailing from the waist, shorts, and black ankle boots, completed by a blue-and-white fluffy tail behind me.
Shooting on location outdoors heavily tested our real-time adaptability. Sunlight filtering through willow fronds cast dappled patches across my face, requiring constant adjustments to our positioning and angles. To highlight the garment structure and silhouette, I opted for crossed-leg seated poses, which elongated leg lines and kept the visual presentation crisp. Posing with a long sword and banner meant not only maintaining steady balance, but also preserving an aloof, serene composure. The photographer encouraged me to channel an innate majesty mixed with a touch of detachment. The sword was hefty; holding it one-handed required keeping my wrist constantly tense. By the pond and inside pavilions, the flowing hem of the gown dragged along the flagstones and easily caught dust, meaning we had to tidy up the fabric after practically every take.
Opting for a natural outdoor shoot over a studio cyclorama was driven by the desire to enrich the imagery with authentic interplay of light and shade. The greens of lotus leaves, weeping willows, and the costume melted together into exquisite visual layers. During retouching, I deliberately prioritized preserving natural skin texture over excessive smoothing, hoping to keep the tangible warmth of sunlight hitting the skin intact. The overall color palette leaned toward a fresh, cool green tone to complement Dusk's ethereal, painting-dwelling immortal presence. Spending an entire day under the blazing sun was physically draining—truly equivalent to a full year's worth of exercise for Dusk—yet seeing every detail faithfully captured with tangible prop texture and layered fabric made every ounce of effort worthwhile. I hope these photos allow everyone to feel this unique fusion of traditional Chinese style and anime aesthetics.
