When shooting Kusuriyubi cosplay, the core challenge lay in harmonizing the classical elements of Yaozhi's design with modern outdoor environments. The centerpiece of this ensemble is a deep blue modified Traditional Chinese style Qipao with traditional frog closures, layered beneath a sheer teal-green outer robe; combining these two tones naturally created rich chromatic depth beside outdoor waterscapes. To break the monotony of expansive dark fabrics, I deliberately accented the styling with an oversized white ribbon bow, paired with over-the-knee White stockings and dark uniform loafers. An opaque fabric was chosen for the White stockings so sunlight reflections remained smooth and uniform, avoiding any cheap sheen while sculpting flattering leg contours.
Shooting along the water in an Outdoor garden, the first photo was captured seated atop a stone carving with curled textures; adopting a slightly elevated camera angle allowed shimmering water reflections to frame the background, lending a lively, spirited presence. In the second photo holding the talisman, I paid special attention to the tactile presence of the yellow paper and red cinnabar ink, adjusting my arm angle to highlight the prop without obscuring facial expressions—this frame remains my personal favorite due to its centered composition and compelling eye contact. The third photo was captured under sunset backlighting; to catch the ambient lens flare, we adjusted the aperture several times. Because strong backlighting easily casts heavy facial shadows, we used a reflector on the opposite side, preserving rich fabric folds and crisp details along the White stockings against the rim light.
For subsequent shots, we moved to the wooden boardwalk, resting the wooden sword prop beside me. The reflection across the water was breathtaking, but capturing that final water-mirror shot required waiting patiently for the wind to die down, as gusts kept stirring up ripples. Throughout the session, the sheer outer robe was so featherlight that every breeze sent it fluttering wildly, requiring constant adjustments between shutter takes. Navigating the uneven stone paths of the Outdoor garden was tricky, and we had to stay vigilant to keep the wooden sword from slipping into the water. Cosplay incorporating classical elements demands rigorous control over fabric drape and prop placement so accessories never overpower the subject. Through these varied frames, I feel the frozen moments captured the character's aloof poise and playful charm admirably. Posing with one foot braced against the stone showcased the White stockings and leg contours cleanly. Though demanding, the rigorous photographic composition of the final outcome made it thoroughly worthwhile.
