Today, I'm taking everyone on an immersive experience of the sailor uniform daily life on a tram. For this shoot, we chose a very classic blue-and-white color-scheme sailor uniform, paired with a pure white pleated skirt and white calf socks, selecting dark brown loafers for the shoes, creating a very clean and refreshing overall color palette. To fit the theme of a commuting tram girl, we specifically found a retro yellow tram as the background.
The lighting on the day of the shoot was exceptionally good; the cool-toned light source built inside the tram and the natural light filtering in from outside formed a fantastic contrast. In terms of pose design, I referenced many classic postures in Japanese-style photography. For example, gripping the overhead strap ring with one hand while letting the body lean naturally not only showcases the natural drape of the sailor uniform, but also wonderfully elongates the leg lines, making the overall proportions look more harmonious. At the same time, to keep the frame from feeling monotonous, I prepared an old book with Chinese characters on the cover; looking down at the book or holding it while looking toward the lens both add a sense of narrative to the frame.
Regarding hair and makeup, since it's a daily photo set without a specific character setting, the makeup leans toward a translucent, natural Japanese sweet-girl style, retaining blunt bangs and twin-tails to look even more energetic. During photo selection, special attention was paid to the textural expression of the White stockings and the pleated skirt. White stockings tend to reflect light easily, so during the shoot, I made sure to adjust angles to avoid overexposure; retaining certain shadow details gives the legs more three-dimensionality.
In addition, that photo on the tram platform turned out exceptionally photogenic. The yellow safety line, the yellow tram body, coupled with the blue-and-white JK uniform, created an eye-catching color collision. Holding a bottle of milk as a prop while standing casually and capturing those unintentional moments gives off a strong youth protagonist vibe. When shooting themes like this, the most important thing is naturalness and relaxation; there's no need for overly deliberate posing. Utilizing surrounding scene elements well—such as rings, books, beverage bottles, or even the glass reflections of the tram doors—can capture photos with great texture. If everyone goes out to shoot tram themes in the future, you can also try these practical little tips.
I thoroughly enjoyed the entire process of this shoot. Space inside the carriage is actually quite limited, so the camera mostly used medium-to-long telephoto lenses to compress the space. I really love the feeling of light and shadow hitting the skirt hem through the glass, and post-processing slightly adjusted warm tones to make the overall atmosphere softer. White calf socks are definitely the soul of this coordination; paired with loafers, they make the leg shape look straight and sleek when walking or standing. If everyone pays more attention to these everyday scenes filled with local atmosphere when going out to shoot daily photos in the future, you can often capture unexpectedly wonderful photos.
