Today I'm turning in assignment #10 of the '100 Maid Outfits Project,' choosing the princess tulle Maid outfit from Malymoon. This Maid outfit takes a dark black, white, and gray approach, offering a touch more gothic retro charm compared to traditional black-and-white maid attire. My very first impression when receiving it was its substantial weight—the layered mesh and lace craftsmanship are remarkably solid.
Let's talk about the bodice details first. The neckline features classic black-and-white plaid paired with a small black bow, while the chest combines white lace patchwork with gray fabric, creating the visual slimming effect of a boned corset. My favorite detail is the off-the-shoulder cut: semi-sheer gray puff sleeves with plaid cuffs and black bows flatter the shoulders and collarbone lines. The lace-up straps around the waist are exquisitely tailored, and the hem consists of multi-tiered asymmetrical white and gray ruffles. The skirt feels delightfully airy when moving around, and the outer tulle has a subtle sheen that separates into crisp, defined layers under flash lighting.
To coordinate with this dress, I went with Anime-style fashion hair and makeup: straight-bang black twin tails topped with a maid headdress embellished with lace and silver chains. For eye makeup, I specifically wore light blue contact lenses paired with generous pink blush to enhance that doll-like Anime-style fashion finish. The lower half was styled with lace-trimmed over-the-knee White stockings; the garters prevent slipping while beautifully shaping the leg lines. Completed with pearl-and-bow platform Mary Janes, the overall silhouette looks elongated and sleek.
The shoot was staged in a moody, vintage interior. A black vintage leather sofa, a white metal mannequin, and a crystal chandelier in the background perfectly supported the dark princess Lolita aesthetic. During the shoot, I tried several poses to showcase the costume's highlights. Sitting on the carpet with legs stretched forward wonderfully displayed the flare of the skirt and the delicate details of the White stockings. Sitting on the sofa with crossed legs focused attention on the bodice lace and waistline, while sitting sideways on the sofa and glancing back captured the dimensional layers of the hem and the tailored back cut.
Reflecting on the whole shoot, what impressed me most was the interplay of textures—stiff corset strapping harmonizes seamlessly with soft tulle mesh, producing structured contours without looking bulky. For lighting, we used a focused single light source to darken the background and make the textures of the model and fabric pop. Although putting it on was slightly intricate—smoothing out every layer of skirt folds took time—the final results were thoroughly satisfying, packing a powerful visual punch.
