For this shoot featuring Argus from Azur Lane during the port's Midsummer Cooling Festival, both the set design and the wardrobe felt wonderfully refreshing. To channel the seaside summer vibe, we held an indoor studio shoot featuring a blue curved backdrop and bright blue floor matting that looked just like crystalline pool water at first glance. The photography crew prepared a wooden folding lounger, along with a grey-and-white striped inflatable swim ring and a blue-and-white volleyball as interactive props.
Wardrobe-wise, this Swimsuit cosplay has a richly layered design. A navy halter bikini serves as the underlayer, accented with crisscrossing straps across the chest, layered beneath an off-the-shoulder white ruffled cropped top that effortlessly highlights waist and midriff contours. The bottoms are matching white shorts detailed with navy knotted cords along the hips. To enhance that summery flair, I wore transparent flat slides, keeping the overall silhouette breezy without distracting from the swimwear's visual focal points. The wig was long, sleek silver-white hair with a subtle ash tint, radiant under the studio lights. For makeup, I emphasized blue colored contacts and reddish eye makeup, complemented by prominent blush and glossy pink lips to channel an energetic, 2D Sweet girl vitality in this Azur Lane cosplay.
The shooting process proved far more detail-oriented than expected. With numerous props, sitting on the lounger required balancing body posture with prop placement. I experimented with different ways of handling the swim ring—resting one hand on it or cradling it across my front—making it appear like an everyday item picked up on a whim rather than a rigid prop. The full-body shot in Photo 4 is a personal favorite: resting my chin in one hand while the other gently touched the swim ring, legs tilted naturally to one side, with the volleyball at my feet balancing the negative space at the bottom of the frame. The photographer repeatedly reminded me to relax my shoulders and maintain a languid, nonchalant gaze to capture that carefree summer afternoon reverie.
To make colors pop vibrantly, we utilized crisp, cool-toned key lights paired with circular LED strip lights along the backdrop, maximizing the immersive blue ambiance. I remained mindful of keeping my spine straight while posing, as slouching would ruin the waistline and the aesthetic appeal of the swimwear. The ruffled top naturally creased while seated, so I smoothed it out between takes to ensure clean, distinct fabric layers. Looking back, the hardest part was actually managing the swim ring's placement—being inflated and bulky, it easily obstructed body lines, requiring constant angle adjustments to find the sweet spot where the swimsuit was showcased while the prop enhanced the atmosphere.
Bringing Argus's swimsuit to life in this Argus cosplay was all about faithful recreation across makeup, hair, wardrobe, and props. Though the session demanded non-stop adjustments of poses and facial expressions, seeing that crisp, summery chill captured in the final shots made every drop of sweat worthwhile.
