The location chosen for this Honkai: Star Rail Sparkle cosplay shoot was a vintage bar counter, where the red, white, and black bunny-eared outfit created a striking contrast against the warm wood textures and backlit liquor bottles.
Starting with styling, I picked pink contact lenses, blended reddish eyeshadow around the outer corners, and applied blush high on the cheekbones for a lively, energetic appearance. The white twintail wig needed careful upkeep; curling the ends with an iron gave it a very natural hair flow. The mini bunny-ear top hat was tricky to secure because of how lightweight it was, tending to tilt while moving, so its position had to be checked constantly before shooting.
Prep work was detailed, as an outfit in this 2D-inspired style includes numerous accessories—especially the bow tie and ruffled cuffs, which required repeated ironing to stay crisp. Furthermore, the red glove staff prop had a baked lacquer finish prone to scratching, so it was transported wrapped in multiple layers of bubble wrap.
Fine-tuning the costume took time; the layered ruffles and chest bow tie offered rich depth. Matte white thigh-high Stockings were selected specifically to prevent harsh glare under indoor lighting, while the black leg garter served as the visual anchor of the ensemble, breaking up the leg line nicely. During the shoot, I adjusted the garter's position to ensure comfort and keep the lines flattering while seated.
The red glove staff was notably front-heavy, requiring one hand at the base and the other gripping the shaft to maintain balance. Its high-gloss surface also produced intense reflections under the studio lights, which were softened in post-production to bring out a refined texture.
The photographer set up thoughtful lighting to handle the bar's mixed light sources. A cool fill light was placed at the front-left and a warm rim light at the back-right, establishing a distinct cool-blue versus warm-yellow contrast. Low-angle framing elongated the legs, with the prop extended toward the camera along a diagonal to create depth. A shallow depth of field softly blurred the background bottles into gentle bokeh without competing with the subject.
Posing took some adjustment to capture Sparkle's cheeky expression. Tilting the head slightly, tucking the chin, and projecting the prop forward produced the ideal framing. Posing directly on the bar counter required balancing weight slightly backward to accentuate leg length while engaging the core to stay steady. Post-processing stayed true to natural tones, preserving fabric textures and clean skin. Overall, blending this design into a bar counter setting provided a captivating contrast, resulting in a very rewarding shoot.
